For the life of me I don't understand why Augusta can't decide on it's own what type of club they want.

Because freedom of association, according to many special interest groups, means their freedom to associate with you, even if you would prefer to not associate with them.

They can decide - legally - but these harpies don't care about that. They want what they want and they will pressure anyone they think can help them get what they want.
