Report: Sept 11 Cost NYC Some $95 Billion

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The economic cost New York City suffers as the result of the Sept. 11 attacks will range from $83 billion to $95 billion, partly depending upon how many jobs are shifted out of the city, a new report said on Wednesday.

City Comptroller William Thompson also estimated in his new report that it will cost $21.8 billion to replace the buildings, infrastructure and what he called "tenant assets" lost as a result of the attacks that toppled the World Trade Center.

Some 13 million square feet of prime office space were destroyed -- an amount equal to all the office space in Atlanta's or Miami's business districts.

When it comes to lost taxes, New York City lost nearly $3 billion and almost $500 million in unreimbursed expenses, Thompson said.

New York City now has 83,000 fewer jobs than before Sept. 11 and Thompson estimated that 63,000 jobs that would have been created as the city recovered from a downturn also have been lost.

I missed it. I wanted to see it but I kept getting side tracked by something else. New York is in a big hole right now and I don't see us getting out of it for at least 5-10 years. The terrorists knew they were going to get us where it hurts - right in the money belt. They knew that besides the total distruction of the WTC and the deaths of thousand New York would feel this for a long time financially. They got us right in our pockets.

If the idea alone doesn't inspire the most harsh and direct of action and response---the idea of feral subhuman ingrate boy-buggerering animals marching right into the USA and slaughtering thousands of Americans---then people need to look at it this way:

Almost 1/10th of one TRILLION dollars and almost 100 thousand jobs lost----in NEW YORK ALONE.

Imagine an attack only ten times as large in scope and casualties. Imagine a very imaginable attack 100 times as big. Then do the math.

Such a catastrophe will hurt our pride, arouse our patriotism, make most people want action---until they forget about it and the media conveniently bury the images and replace them with multi-culti love-fests. But that is NOTHING compared to what such an attack would do to economies, to nations, and to civilization.

An attack costing "just" a trillion dollars, much less one costing 10 or 100 trillion in losses---this would catapult world civilization into a sort of 2nd dark age (remember, they were responsible for the first one), destabilizing governments, collapsing economies, wiping wealth and value and entire economic systems from the face of the earth. The Great Depression would look like a party in comparison.

After such a cataclysm, everyone would say, why didn't we prevent it? ANYthing would have been better than THIS. Profiling, unilateral obliteration of all things moslem, summary executions, a fight against islam identical to what we did to Nazism---NONE of this would seem extreme at all after an event like the one these people are FULLY capable of and which they will execute unless totally, unmercifully preempted.
