Jeff Head seeks FReeper Input on Promoting the Dragon's Fury Series (Vanity)
Online Ad for the Dragon's Fury Series ^ | Aug 31, 2002 | Jeff Head

Posted on 08/31/2002 4:50:44 PM PDT by Jeff Head

OK, I realize this is a vanity, and I apologize to any who may be offended by it ... [Note: If you are, stop now and exit the thread].

But, since the FReeper community has been so supportive of my efforts with this series, and since I am upfront and open about my intentions with the series ... that is to use the series to send what I deem to be critical messages about our Republic and the current circumstances we find ourselves in ... I thought I would seek input from those folks at FR interested in and following the enitre project (and that's how I view it).

Here's the thought.

I have been somewhat successful so far in self-publishing the series and getting a fairly good audience for the books. Lots of great comments, some very good rankings on Amazon, lots of great input and critique from all over the country, particularly from members here at FR.

The Series is not "Politically Correct", but I believe it is "Constitutionally Correct" and in keeping with the intent of the founders of this nation and focused on current efforts to return our Republic to its Constitutional and moral roots. But no major publisher has taken interest in the work to date.

So, being committed to the effort in any case ... I intend to start a serious and organized advertisement campagin for the books in an effort to increase exposure and to promote the series.

In that regard, I have produced an initial online advertisement that I want FReeper input on. I intend to make this effort at my own expenze, starting online. Here is a link to that online ad:

ONLINE AD FOR THE DRAGONS FURY SERIES

I would like FReepers who are interested to consider the following:

I intend to take the ad, after it has been through this process (critique and forwarded onto email chains) and pay for space on various online sites.

After that, I intend to take out similar ads in local newspapers in major locals and expand to radio as I can afford them.

What are your thoughts on all of this?

I appreciate folks time and apologize for any inconvienence. Particularly, I appreciate this site, its members, its lurkers and its owner for providing a platform for projects such as this to germinate.

BIGGER! You're selling a product, and the first thing people see is the picture. Some color might be nice, too...all the text is good for at the bottom--for the ones interested enough to scroll, they'll read it down there; but the idea is to catch the wayward surfer with big pictures and one large, colored tagline beneath them, then give them the skinny on your book. Buzz words might be a good idea, but they'll turn off your best readers.

I think being on Hannity would be GREAT! Perhaps someone can let him know ... I have sent him one of the books.

I have no idea about how to go about getting an agent, or getting the right one. I figure if I percervere, ultimately they will seek me out.

Hey Jeff - great idea! I really like the compelling questions in the ad.

(You have regular email ... the Proofreading Patriot has struck again!)

I wonder what NewsMax and WorldNetDaily's online ad policies are. Also... AmericanProwler.com.

Think big!

Best...

P.S. - I'd enlarge the font size of the copy a little... I find it very difficult to read the small stuff on the screen.

FRegards!

Also try William Lajeunesse of Fox...

Good ideas upthread, especially suggestions towards short and punchy. Grab 'em by the throat.

It keeps looking better!

I gotta E-mail Hannity, he needs a heads up.

Anyway, I'm sold, I want Vol. 2. I will send this around when the final version is arrived at.

And proof read, proof read. Typos distract when the story is riviting.

FReegards, amigo!

I think you misspelled "relevant," but my brain is cooked from chemistry, so I don't know for sure.

For months I've been bugging the folks at my library to get copies of your books. Is there any way you can advertise to the library systems across the country?

Here's a link to mine:

For internet marketing, one thing I know ... it's critical to not have scrolling ... to limit it as much as possible. Otherise people tend to "click through".

Making the type bigger will make it too long on most screens. I'll have to shorten ... and we're getting there.

Excellent work! The only nit I see left to pick is the typo in the note at the bottom of the page. Change "Mircorsoft" to "Microsoft."

"I figure if I percervere, ultimately they will seek me out."

No no no........do NOT figure that, Jeff. Far from it. Don't expect them to come to you.

Go find one......and I suggest asking your publisher for recommendations, do a Google search on literary agents, study up on 'em, etc. Shoot........if I were you, I'd contact Tom Clancy and / or Dale Brown and ask them for a recommendation.

Hi Jeff, I see what you mean. I would change "Can US military forces..." to "U.S." in order to be consistent with the first use of "U.S."

"relevent" indeed s/b "relevant"

Also, because you use "Second Amendment" in the books, and because it has more weight than "2nd amendment", I'd change that, too.

In your last paragraph, every instance of "Dragon's Fury" should be italicized for consistency.

Good stuff!
