Excerpt -

A former president without honor in his own land?

Westchester, New York's Bill Clinton will travel to his native Arkansas next week to a somewhat ambivalent reception. The Arkansas Democratic Party announced that Clinton, a former Arkansas governor, will attend a "Countdown to Victory" rally in West Memphis on Monday featuring "Arkansas's Democratic statewide candidates." Turns out that the marquee name among Democratic statewide candidates, Senate nominee Mark Pryor, has sent his regrets.

Clinton coming to West Memphis, Memphis

WASHINGTON - Former president Bill Clinton will speak at a West Memphis rally for Arkansas Democratic candidates Monday and attend a fund-raiser for Rep. Marion Berry (D-Ark.) that night in Memphis.

Berry, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jimmie Lou Fisher and most candidates for constitutional offices in Arkansas will attend the rally at 4:30 p.m. at the West Memphis Civic Auditorium, said Adrienen Elrod, communications director for the Arkansas Democratic Party.

The Democratic candidate for Senate, Atty. Gen. Mark Pryor, will not attend, said a campaign press aide, Rodell Mollineau. He said Pryor has to prepare for a debate the following day in Little Rock.

Elrod said she believes the rally is the first public appearance for Clinton on behalf of Arkansas Democratic candidates since he was president.

After the rally, Clinton will attend a $500-per-person Berry fund-raiser at Felicia Suzanne's restaurant in Memphis.

LITTLE ROCK—In the latest failed attempt to identify Mark Pryor as a conservative, the Democratic Party of Arkansas launched a TV ad wrongly accusing Senator Tim Hutchinson of being a tax hiker, while unknowingly showing Hutchinson’s record of being a true conservative.

“We congratulate the Democratic Party for dragging Mark Pryor out of the liberal closet,” said Anthony Hulen, Hutchinson campaign spokesman. “Only a liberal would cry foul and call it a tax hike when Tim Hutchinson voted to take power away from the central government and put it in the hands of local officials.”

Also interesting was the Democrats mention of the “no tax Tim” label that was pinned on Hutchinson when he was in the General Assembly---by then Governor Bill Clinton.

Hulen also scoffed at the portion of the ad accusing Hutchinson of raiding the Social Security Trust Fund.

“Tim Hutchinson helped stop the federal government’s decades of raiding the Social Security Trust Fund,” Hulen said. “It will not surprise us to see Mark Pryor latch on to the dirty, but failed, Medi-scare type tactics that this ad sadly contains which shamefully tries to strike fear into the hearts of Arkansas seniors. What else would you expect from someone who has brought in a senior adviser who Mark himself calls “the Angel of Death”?”

Hello, Tuco-bad.

Up the medication, Socialist 'Rat.

1 kg. of Prozac daily just isn't reigning in your pathetic attempts at political commentary.

Remember, the effects of Liberalism are lethal - a 'fall' from a 15th storey window is rarely survived, even for a 'Rat.

As Mark Pryor tries to find answers on why his popularity with voters continues to dwindle, he may have more problems in answering to Arkansans on why he is not doing his job as Attorney General in defending the state’s right-to-work law regarding construction work at the Clinton Presidential Library.

Pryor has brought in a native Arkansan with fund-raising experience in California to raise money for his campaign. She is Terri New, who grew up in Saline County and has raised money in California for Barbara Boxer, Gray Davis, Hillary Clinton and Al Gore.

March 2002...

Senator Hillary Clinton hosted a political fundraiser for Senatorial candidate Mark Pryor at the Log Cabin in the Presidio in San Francisco. The theme was 'Down Home & Bluegrass' and a bluegrass band was needed to play for the event. Belle Monroe and Her Brewglass Boys were selected and reportedly had a ball. The band is very dynamic and was very well received. Catering was by top Bay Area chef Alice Waters, of Chez Panisse, who took good care of the band as well, much to their delight!

Washington DC - Vice President Al Gore announced today that Attorney General Mark Pryor will serve as his Gore 2000 chair in Arkansas. On August 7, a Gore 2000 reception with President Clinton and Vice President will be held in Little Rock, AR.

"I am extremely pleased to announce that Mark Pryor, the Attorney General of Arkansas, has agreed to serve as Arkansas state director for my campaign," Gore said.

What a beautiful lose-lose situation for Pryor.

Obviously he has made the judgement that to appear with Clinton would be more of a negative than not.

If my assessment of the Arkansas electorate is accurate, Pryor is making a mistake. Arkansas' democrats are protective of their boy Bill, with the exception of the cadre of longtime Pryor people, who probably surround Mark and distort his vision.

If Tim exploits this "event" properly, especially in contrast to Bush's visits to the state, it will depress the base DEM turnout by a point or two, which could be critical.
