Finally mad enough at Saudi's (and egypt) - Who out there would not mind paying (at least for a little while) $5.00 per gallon for gas, just for the peace of mind of saying Go Eat Sand and Drink Your Godforsaken Oil - to the Royal Family et al! They would wet their burkas and we would have a relatively free hand defending ourselves in the war on islamic militancy derived terror. Market principles being as they are, Russia, North Sea, Alaskan (gasp!), Caribean (oh my!), and other sources (Iran?) would eventually bring it back down to normal (?) but boy it would feel good to clear out of that stinking sand pit.

anyone second the motion? How much would you pay?
To: epluribus_2
Sure thing, man. I don't own a car.
Of course, just remember, the price of everything else will go up, too, since it has to be shipped.
To: epluribus_2
i do it just to see the suv's squirm.

Would also open the Arctic to drilling and exploration.
High oil prices spur exploration and production.
Or else a significant move to other sources of
energy.

The bigger part of Saudi oil goes to Europe and Japan. About 1/3 goes to America, and not much over 1/2 of America's oil consumption is imported. Dropping Saudi oil would not raise the price of gasoline more than 50% in America and not at all in Europe and Japan. It won't be $5/gal gasoline, more like $2/gal.
To: epluribus_2
Not me.
I'd rather use the American oil our fine, patriotic legislators have locked up in the frozen barrens of Alaska, and pay "market rates" which would still be well under $2!
Of course, in that case, the Saudis would probably still eat sand.

It could be billed as doing your Patriotic Duty to pay $5 per gallon. A twist on the WWII rationing, I suppose. I would be willing to do it. In a heartbeat.

Who would be paid the $5? BP?

A not very well kept secret: There are enough wells capped in the United States to supply our needs for the next 100 years. Can you say manipulation?

Do you own a gas station? We can "absorb" most of the Iraqi oil fields to fund the war against terror, fund any other necessary wars, pay off the national debt,....and NOT raise the price of gas.

I own 2 SUV's and I have a better idea.
Why not call the Saudi's terrorists, and go over there and shoot them, and take the oil for ourselves?
To: Jimer
That would be better! My main point is - why do we care one flyspeck what the Saudi's think about our right to defend ourself from Iraq. Or the Euros for that matter. Or the SanFranciscans...
To: epluribus_2
Since we only get about 6% of our oil from Saudi Arabia, how do you figure the price will jump to $5 a gallon?
I'm sure Russia will be happy to make up for any shortfall.
And we could always drill our own.
To: epluribus_2
The Saudi's are not going to stop selling oil.
The only danger rests with Iraq - who might blowup the
Saudi oil fields were the they to cooperate with us.
See how well the threat is working?

We can tell the Saudis to pound sand up their ass and still not pay a penny more for gas. There are enough proven fields of oil now off of the coast of Ca.,Fl.( in shallow water) and in Alaska to satisfy Americas petroleum needs for at least the next 100 years. Now which would you rather do, go to war in the middle east or tell a bunch of Greens to shut the f**k up and sit down!

I think we need to do both - and make an example of one tinhorn dictator over there to discourage others.
To: epluribus_2
I will Rollerblade to work, if that's what's required. BTW, we will last a lot longer without their oil than they would without our $$$.
