(IsraelNN.com) Heavy exchanges of gunfire continue in Gaza at this hour. Early reports from the scene of the battle, mainly in the vicinity of Nvei Dekalim, indicated that an Israeli has been seriously injured. More details will be published as they become available.
Maybe, maybe not. There's a reason it's not in the pali interest to let the Israelis pull out:
When we attack Iraq, the Israelis won't want their soldiers in the pali areas. We all know the palis will go even more nuts then, and Israel would be reluctant to fire away if their own men are in the "territories". Look for Israel to pull out just before we hit Iraq, at which point the stupid palis will predictably all gather in the streets for their victory celebration, providing compact, convenient targets. Until then, I suspect the Israelis know full well that the palis will never agree to peace.
It would mean taking a stand against the Oslo proselytist crusade against Israel. Jews were taught that only G_d can proselytise, which is fine, but some fear that taking a stand would mean Jews would start proselytising the world. But this is the same stupid logic that Jews applied in Nazi Germany, when Germans accused them of proselytising Germans because a few Jews were present in the press.
This means that leftist Jews are considered proselytiser by Palestinians and are probably hated more than the right wing Jews who have a lower profile. This means that Jews have a problem getting to agree with each other, proselytising to each other what the word of G_d was, and this means that Jews/Israelies, from the left and the right, are still very uncomfortable with the struggle to prevent the destruction of Israel by foreign proselytism, believe it or not.

A Proposal of Treason August 19, 2002It is hard to believe that after all we have been through; all the shooting and bombing; all the murders of our civilian population; the clear intention of our enemies to do all in their power to destroy the Jewish State; that our defense minister can respond by giving our enemies another chance! This action is far more than irresponsible. It is criminal.
We never had any reason to assume that the Arabs wish to live together in peace with us. Oslo was an act of desperation and futility, not reason and good will. It failed at the very outset, yet our leaders chose to ignore their own eyes and ears and to continue with the madness which led to the needless murder of hundreds of our civilian population. We were told that it was just an experiment. We would give them control over Gaza and Jericho first. If that worked we would give them more areas of self rule. Well it didn't work. But our leaders pretended not to notice and continued to give them more and more of our homeland. Not only this, but as our enemies were given these areas with the understanding that they would be given freedom to rule themselves under overall Israeli sovereignty, they chose to ignore those understandings and created a defacto Arab sovereignty over what is now erroneously referred to as "Arab lands"!
Clearly we are in a state of war with those who seek to take our country away from us. To even think about negotiation with such people is treason. It is a clear expression of surrender even before any negotiations begin. Before there can be any thought of negotiations we must first win the war. After we have completely vanquished our enemies we can then give them a simple choice. They can live in Israel as subservient alien residents with no political rights, or they can leave. To offer more than this is to surrender our birthright to our enemies.
How humiliating for our defense minister to sit with our enemies as they continue to murder us and offer to withdraw our forces as an alleged incentive for them to stop. If you want them to stop then you force them to stop. If you beg them to stop they will never stop. We already tried this lunacy called Gaza first and it failed miserably then. To make the same stupid mistake twice is unforgivable. We are engaged in a very real and very dangerous war. We have no right to toy with the lives of our people and the future of our homeland. The IDF is perfectly capable of taking back everything which was given over to our enemies. It is perfectly capable of disarming the Arabs and stopping all terror in our homeland. The only thing preventing it from so doing is the cowardice of our political leaders. We need not apologize to anyone for doing all that we need to do to restore our homeland to our complete control and to vanquish our enemies quickly and brutally. For our leadership to do less is criminal negligence and dereliction of responsibility to the people of Israel. And, even worse, it is a denial of the Divine obligation which rests upon every Jew, and desecration of our G-d, which invites more needless tragedy.
Project Shofar is dedicated to spreading these truths wherever it is possible to do so. It is sounding the alarm, to Jew and Gentile alike, to open our eyes to the G-dly process that is presently underway, and work to support it. We dare not stand idly on the sidelines.

Urgent call to action-
NO to the evil and suicidal "GAZA FIRST" plan !!!Lately the Israeli media has been quoting commentators who said that Iraq is Israel's biggest threat and enemy.
I would like to contest that.
It is not Iraq nor Iran nor the PA that constitute a grave threat to Israel, but it is rather the Israeli Left acting from within and outside of the Israeli government.
At a time when the IDF finally is acting in Judea and Samaria within the cities occupied by the Palestinian Authority- and our Arab enemy finally shows signs of weakness and fatigue, to the point where we could easily- within a few weeks- completely destroy their terrorist infrastructure- Defense Minister Ben Eliezer and Oslo criminal FM Shimon Peres once again run to the enemy's rescue and come up with a new devilish plan to save the terrorist Palestinian Authority: "The Gaza and Bethlehem First Plan".
According to this plan the IDF will withdraw from around Gaza and from Bethlehem; leaving the murderous PA in charge of "security"!! No- this is not a joke. The joke is on us!
One of the new PA "stars" is the mass murderer Muhammad Dahlan- we were all shocked to see how high ranking Israelis met with him; we all remember that he is responsible for the massacre of many Jews.
This devilish "Gaza First" plan is simply a new version of the disastrous Oslo agreements; agreements that have cost the lives of hundreds of Jews and tens of thousands of wounded.
This plan will give a free hand to the PA and all other terror organizations to rehabilitate themselves and thus will enable them to plan new and more sophisticated terror attacks against Israel.
As usual, we are not surprised that the Israeli Left has initiated such a plan. The Oslo criminals who have given guns to the Arab enemy - knowing that those guns would be used against Jews- are certainly capable of more criminal plans that will cost the lives of many more Jews.
But our shock, surprise, disappointment, and anger is aimed towards PM Ariel Sharon who is allowing -once again- the Israeli Left in his government to execute plans that are against the interest of the Jewish People.
As a first step in our action against those new Oslo agreements- It is of utmost importance that we bombard PM Ariel Sharon and all ministers and MK's with thousands of faxes expressing our opposition to this "Gaza First Plan".
For those who wish to send e-mails:
Go to www.gov.il and/or www.knesset.gov.il and you will get all e-mail contacts you wish. But calling and sending faxes is certainly better.
Remember, every fax counts. Raise your voice and say NO to this new suicide plan.
The only plan that a Jewish government should materialize is called: "Erets Yisrael Le'Am Yisrael" (The Land of Israel belongs to the People of Israel). In addition- now , more than ever we should also continue with our demand:
"Indict the Oslo criminals" (Poshei Oslo Ledin!")As you know, stickers with both those slogans have been printed by us. Order them by contacting our Women in Green office.

Remember that HAMAS is strongest in Gaza, it was there that HAMAS started a civil war against Arafat last year forcing him to return from overseas to quell it. Many PA "police" stations were burned, and Arafat closed Gaza to reporters while he "cleaned up" his little problem.
My guess is this is both buying time for the US to position itself against Iraq, and making it easier for Hamas to attack the vastly weakened Palestinian Authority. Hamas is in open warfare with the PA in Lebanon over the refugee camps up there.
If Israel pulls out, leaving the streets un controlled, Hamas will attack Arafat. Arafat is trapped in Ramallah, the West Bank. His empire is crumbling from within.
The Palestinians are very predictable, Israel is allowing them to do to themselves what Israel cannot do to them. Hamas knows every PA operator and visa versa. Israel has taken out the control rods of this reactor by removing the upper management of both Hamas and the PA. Now the pack is turning on themselves and there is no one to reign them in. I think the IDF is guessing that Gaza is going to erupt into a big turf war. Arafat's top terrorists are going to have to smuggle themselves into Gaza to help hold the turf. The PAs terrorist army will extradite itself into Gaza so Israel will not have to. This will perform a great mop up of the West Bank. More and more the terrorists are becoming concentrated into Gaza and the West Bank is becoming free.
Despite the rhetoric, I suspect most of the West Bank Arabs are pretty happy about this. Every one I have talked to behind closed doors hate Arafat but are deathly afraid of him and his secret police.

I always thought that only portions of Jerusalem were annexed. Can anyone confirm either way?
IMO, if the government of Israel suddenly gives up Oslo, the Palis, with their friends still living in their homelands (i.e.: Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, Syria) and their enablers throughout EUroweenie land, will unilaterally condemn Israel for "not truely wanting peace". It might even give some Arab country an excuse to invade Israel again.
