NY Times Columnist Krugman Lied About Bush, Former Bush Partners Say
NewsMax ^ | 8/14/02 | Limbacher

Tom Bernstein and Roland Betts, two of George W. Bush's partners in the Texas Rangers investment castigated the virulently anti-Bush New York Times columnist Paul Krugman for spreading blatant falsehoods about the president.

In a letter to the International Herald Tribune the two men wrote:

"Krugman says George W. Bush's investment in the Texas Rangers entitled him to $2.3 million from the baseball team's sale. But, Krugman adds, 'his partners voluntarily gave up some of their share, and Bush received 12 percent of the proceeds - $14.9 million. So a group of businessmen, presumably with some interest in government decisions, gave a sitting governor a $12 million gift.'

"We were among Bush's partners. In 1989, when we bought the team, Bush became the co-general partner with Edward Rose. At that time, the two general partners were granted a 15 percent share in the investment, after each investor got back his investment plus interest. This is a standard limited-partnership structure.

"At the time, Bush was a private citizen, not governor of Texas.

"When we sold the team in 1998, Bush received his 10 percent share. This was not 'a $12 million gift' to 'a sitting governor.' Bush had a good idea and the ability to make it happen. He was a dedicated manager and investor, exactly what we hope for in our business leaders."

Wrote New York Press columnist Taki Theodoracopulos, who revealed the letter " ...this Paul Krugman fellow takes the cake. He is an ex-Enron consultant who is bending over backwards to connect George W. with corporate sleaze. In fact, he does more than bend. He outright lies and invents in his pathetic column in The Big Bagel Times.

"So, not only has Krugman the liar been caught out, The New York Times has to be in cahoots. After all, Krugman surely knew that Bush was not governor at the time, but he threw it in anyway to give his lies a boost. Calling a standard business practice 'a $12 million gift' is further proof that Krugman is a person to be trusted, a la Marc Rich. Not only does this liar have no shame about his Enron connection - I wonder whom they learned all that constructive accounting from? - he tries to libel President Bush as a tool of bribing businessmen. If the Times were not as desperate to destroy George W.'s presidency, Krugman would have been long gone. But it's never too late. The paper of false record has been caught in flagrante. Krugman should get a job in Hollywood, where bald-faced phonies and liars like him are considered Tinseltown aristocracy."

Thanks for posting!

Keep wondering if the NY times sends its articles by the evil clinton duo before they go in print. The clintons' fingerprints seem to be all over recent articles out of the Times that trash Republicans!

Thanks for posting this.

When do the left wing maggots of the NY Slimes, DC Compost and Slimes magazine lie about our President?

Whenever they write anything about him as per a phone call, meeting, fax or email from Terry McAwful as indicated in this article.

--------------------

Let's employ a little seriousness and honests. He was also the president's kid with political contacts and a political future, not just another private citizen, which was what qualified him for the deal. It's not all that much different than Hillary turning $100,000 tricks on the commodities exchange because of political power.

I remember you. After learning the paper hired a former Clinton speech writer for their editorial staff, no longer does it make sense to argue bias. We know the media, nightly news, radio, politicos... are nothing but outright liars. Our only responsibility is to spread the truth, once understood others can make their own judgements.

Well, I do know that the NY Slimes editorial board routinely has lunch/dinner with Tom Dashole and Dick Gephardt so they can discuss their "strategy" with them. Thats a fact!

Now why does this not surprise me? We expect as much from the totally fair and balanced NY Slimes. Daschle takes the talking points to dinner and the next morning they appear on the editorial page. There really should be laws against crap like this.

How can anyone take Krugman seriously as an economy columnist. His pik looks like Kramer from Seinfeld. And his goofy grin looks a lot like Nicholson's in the Shining.

Yes, the NY Slimes has little lunch/dinners under the guise of learning what the "democrats are thinking" in order to report to the hoi polloi. But the op-eds the next day always seem to read like a DNC press release and not one claim is challenged.

Actually Krugan is an ex-Enron Bribee who took $50,000 in "consultation fees" (translation: "bribe") in exchange for writing a puff-piece article about Enron in Fortune magazine. Strange that the NY Times doesn't fire this columnist for taking the bribe.

Remember that this is the same paper that still supports the work of Walter Duranty, their Stalin's-boot-licking liar who reported that there was no famine in the Ukraine, when in fact 8,000,000 were dying of famine. They refuse to return the Pulitzer prize he won for his fiction. Krugman is another Janet Cooke - he makes things up..

Yes, it is. Hillary didn't dirty her hands doing the investment work. Red Bone did it ALL for her. I believe that Dubya probably gave full worth.
