You bet they do and they reserve the right to go in and demote and lower everyone's pay and up their hours of work at any time.

The wages and benefits are not good. They stink. They are insured by Blue Cross Blue Shield, who have never paid on anything since I can remember.

The traditional paleo-Conservative rant against Walmart is that the local governments create special tax deals to let Walmart set up shop and promise all kinds of great jobs and what not while the propertied business owners end up on the short stick.

You can seen how it is possible for both Conservatives and libertarians to loath the arrival of Walmart and the moderate Pubbies and New Democrats who sell the souls of small town America for Walmart influence.

What free-marketeers must keep in mind is that there is such a thing as cultural capital that is built up in towns over many lifetimes, and is erased with the arrival of conformists corporations who get to compete with a different set of rules than the local merchant.

"Oh, goody! A Wal-Mart bashing thread. I haven't seen one of these in about a month"

As long as we are on the subject of Wal-Mart bashing here is another reason to dump their stock and shop elsewhere. Wal_mart has a new policy to not complete gun transactions when the NCIS instant check is not instant.

This is definitely anti gun and they quit selling handguns in 1994. Statistically about 28% of the instant backround checks will not be instant. In my own experience out of four guns purchsed under Brady only one was instant and even that took 5 minutes. Try getting an instant check on a Sunday, I have seen entire guns shows screwed up due to instant check glitches.

I'm sure you wouldn't mind saying that to her in person.

Get back to your hormone injections creep.

You're the one who boasted of your spouse's low wage job.

What a pathetic comment. I guess we shouldn't be surprised that such an ad hominem attack come from a person who equates minimum wage with slavery.

As long as you eat well, why should you care about the rest of America?

I see that Tuco "I won't post on FR anymore if Gore loses the election" Bad is back. Say hello to President Bush, and goodbye to FR.

Also note the classic liberal elitism. Someone has a job, is succeeding, as evidenced by the employers willingess to pay that person more, and somehow that is lowly. Typical.

I work for a small distributor of Texaco products. Joe Sixpack can go to WalMart and buy a case of Havoline oil at a price CHEAPER than we can buy it straight from Texaco!

Cut overhead, reduce waste, cut profit margins and compete. Otherwise, find a new business.

Concur. the squeeze produces discomfort, but it is the way business is always done. The inefficient and obsolete must perish. To survive a company must find ways to compete.
