Both of the major party candidates for governor have committed themselves to a civil discourse on the issues between now and November. It will be interesting to see how long they can keep that pledge -- and whether they can keep their troops in line, too. Early signs are not encouraging.

Is that counterproductive? A few people there might not like it, but more read the papers than go to those events.
Independent?!? Independent?!? Unfortunately, I live here now, and independent is not a word I would apply to Michigan voters on the whole. A beautiful state, but, basically, a bunch of rubes surrounding (and supporting) the Third World of Detroit.
Sorry, Dan from Michigan, MomBonn, and the Grosse Pointers. Don't mean to offend--I did pull punches--but that's the way I see it.
As for independence, sure. 90% of Detroiters dependent on the state for subsistence. And the automobile union people so "independent" of the teamsters that they ignore the written statements of a man who wants to destroy their industry and vote overwhelmingly for him because the union tells them to.
I don't know NPR's spin, but I heard about that from someone I know.
The Free Press has always been an activist arm of the far left. Back when Detroit had three newspapers, the Detroit News often took the Republican viewpoint, the Detroit Times the Democrat?s and the Free Press supported the socialist left. The Free Press still supports the far left.
Free speech to the Free Press means that they may publish any type of lie about any conservative but those of us without a newspaper are supposed to keep out mouths shut. They can get as crude as they wish, but the "people" are not supposed to comment.
The Detroit Free Press, in other words, exemplifies everything that is wrong with our State and nation. They are one of the major mouthpieces of the hard left socialists.
The candidate for governor, Jennifer Granholm, is an incompetent fool; a tool of the far left. Anyone watching her campaign knows that she has nothing worthwhile to say. After all, she was born in Canada and raised in California. She's an interloper. So, it's understandable that she doesn't know much about Michigan. Therefore, her rhetoric is little more than a repeat of the socialist party mantra.
If we work hard, we MIGHT be able to pull off an upset.

How long have you been in Michigan? I moved up here two years ago, so I'm more of a North Carolina redneck than a rube. This is the best time of year to be up here. Just wait until winter.

When Engler first ran, Republicans had an interesting task: How to make Detroit voters stay home. :-)
We did and it worked. Never mind how, it was accomplished -- and was not very difficult.
Here's yet another little point the Detroit newspapers are not reporting: The primary vote from Detroit has not yet been counted! The "results" reported from Detroit are just supposed results. The true numbers are not in. And that was with a very small voter turnout.
That, and a few budget questions.
Watch me. I'll be the guy passing out questions for people to ask at some of her public appearances. And, they will NOT be easy questions!
