Which State is the Armpit of America?
Arthur Wildfire! March

Posted on 08/07/2002 4:23:30 PM PDT by Arthur Wildfire! March

Ok fellow freepers. The aristocracy had fun deciding which 'hick town' was the armpit of America. Naturally it had to be rural and conservative. A tad redneck.

They were way off the mark. I would have picked New York prior to 9-11. I mean, good grief. Hellery's husband pardoned bomb terrorists to get her elected, the scandal is exposed to every New Yorker and they elected her anyway? She was silent on the issue for at least a week. But well, perhaps NY had been reborn in blood. So, I'm tempted to give them a pass.

Arkansas? Could that be the armpit of America? The home of NationsBank, Tyson Chicken, Walmart, Web Hubbell, and the Big Creep himself?

Then there is the delightful state of New Jersy, which is batting a thousand at elected scandal-swamped senators. Not only the Torch, but also Corzine.

Some might choose South Dakota. Not only do they keep re-electing Timber Tom [also called Rushmore Daschle], but they also go three days without brushing their teeth. So many choices....

Country music is great. You may want to try it out some time. It's relatively clean, patriotic, often about family, faith, life, etc. Good Stuff.

Contemporary Christian is right up there, too.

Remember when the 55 freeway had 1 lane each way?

I remember when it wasn't even a freeway. As a 54 year old native of California, I think I know the good and the bad of it.

We elected Reagan; passed propositions 13, 187, 209 and 227 (the last three fairly recently).

With a population equal to the country called Canada, we're bound to have problems. Demographics have worked against electing conservatives to statewide office.

My congressman is among the most conservative in the House (Rohrabacher). Next door is Chris Cox, also a very solid conservative.

California is the largest agricultural state in the Union, so while folks bitch and moan, they are most likely enjoying our food (picked by illegal, migrant farmworkers). Enjoying our movies, the good and the bad.

Enjoying our defense industry weapons, and space exploration launch sites (Vandenberg, Edwards). Vacationing at the many beautiful places. Driving on probably the best roads and highways.

Until a bunch of folks moved here from your states, we used to be an oil and gas exporting state.

I'm staying here. Just returned today from another scouting trip, to the as yet uncrowded central coast. Long term may find me somewhere between Ventura and Monterey.

Places with populations under 20,000 include Morro Bay, Pismo Beach and Carpinteria, to name some of the current leading candidates.

Hey Fruitopia, you and Fagical Mystery Tour don't know anything about Georgia

No need to get abusive. Just because you don't recognize Thomas More's work of literature doesn't mean to have to display your ignorance... that kind of display is rather vulgar.

And yes, I do know quite a bit about Georgia. I know about the corruption, I know the Georgia code back to front, and I also know that the code means diddly-squat to those in law enforcement and in politics (local-state-federal level). I was glad to leave.

I also lived in California - worked at NASA. Big commute everyday on the 5. CA's not that bad. A couple of batty people, but there isn't top-bottom corruption like in GA.

If Hollywood is the anus, what the hell is Berkley?

Berkeley is that stuff that travels through the colon and comes out the anus.

I was in Duluth-Superior in early May of this year. The temp was in the mid thirties and rainy.

Unfortunately, that does happen. Spring lasts about 48 hours here most years. But we're having a beautiful summer :)

Touche' on your defense of the frighteningly frigid Duluth winters. And may I add, Duluth is one of my favorite towns - yes, I know that sounds wacky, but I love coming over the hill and seeing that view of the lake, the steep hills (I don't know how you guys drive there in the winter) and decent people.

Frankly, ice storms here freak me out. They are genuinely frightening with the hills we have. If you come back our way, drop me a note!

Seattle!!!! The rest of the state is much more conservative. We (eastern Washington) want to join North Idaho and eastern Oregon.

Yeah, I keep hearing that central Oregon (Bend area) and everything up there, east of the cascades is pretty conservative! Been to Bend several times and really like it.

Paul, I think that most of the public schools are indoctrination camps.

I'll agree with you on that, 100%.

Will do. I lived in St. Paul for 5 years. I'm originally from Texas, so winter was a new experience. I absolutely loved living there because you Minnesoooooootans celebrate winter. Imagine my utter shock the first time I saw people drive out on the lakes. Yours is one of the most strikingly beautiful states in the nation.

I stand corrected.

I love listening to Michael Medved talk about the goings on in Seattle.

It makes CA seem not quite so bad..
