I'm so sorry Parsy, because normally I agree with everything you post on Free Republic, but this time I must disagree. Arkansas must at least be considered in the running for the armpit of the country.

What state failed to stop bubba on his rise to the national stage?

What state was labeled by it's very own governor as a "Banana Republic" because of the vote fraud being committed by demonrats?

What state allows the Klinton library to claim "small business" status so that it can feed on the taxpayer dollar via "small business grants", and also claim "park" status so that it can rake in more taxpayer dollars from the budgets for the zoos and parks in the state?

What state is going to be the first state to have a presidential library that looks like a trailer home on stilts?

The answer is Arkansas

If you will read my commentary, you will see that I am going strictly on the socio-political aspects. I have never been to California, but the people that I know, who have, have told me that it is a beautiful state (something I do not doubt). I don't doubt that many wonderful people live there, however, too many bad people live there. I live in Alabama, which I know is not perfect.

East Detroit is pretty close to the top IMHO.

There was talk of putting up a wall between Grosse Pointe Farms and East Detroit.

Folks, I nominate an over looked People's Republic of Merry(Gay)land where HATE crimes (as mind-read by the jury and judge) provide unequal protection under the law to behavior based perverts! After the current governor, Paris, we will probably get a KENNEDY-Townsend dumb-as-a-ton -o-rocks left-wing anti-gun nut female, who wont build roads and WILL raise taxes (again)!

These people ask questions like: If your folks put you up for adoption, is your pappy still your brother?

That's right-----pick on New Jersey!

As soon as I saw the title, I knew you guys would be out in droves, picking on this neat little state!

Funny - tho, I have heard of apology after apology, from out-of-state-people ---- after they move here, and really see the state for themselves.

I'm from Massachusetts, and would NEVER go back there. My mother literally cried when she realized that I was going to marry someone from Jersey -- until she visited - and did a complete turn-about.

But all the above is about the state as a whole -- physically.

Now ----- having said all that,---- my husband once said that when God gave the world a physic, (purge -- enema to all you in Rio Linda) it came out in Jersey City. We all know what happened to Jersey City when Bret Schundler took over, so there is hope yet for places like that. I think that Camden, or Irvington would now qualify for the 'worstest' of all.

However, if we are talking about "political armpits", maybe New Jersey can give the rest of the states some lessons. The demonstration that our GOP put on in last year's Governor's election, showed just how high we are up the 'armpit' ladder. I think our problem is having so many urban areas in such a small, highly populated state. It is a politician's delight.

If we are talking about 'armpit cities', then we have a good share of them, and can go to the top of the BO heap. There isn't a state, that I have seen, that is all pearly pure.

I hope that NJ can stun all of you in the next Senatorial election. I only hope I will be stunned as well!

(Go Forrester Go!!)

Babs, Alec, Julia, Susan Saranwrap, Sarah Jessica Parker, the cast of The West Wing, Ed Asner, Alan Alda, Whoopi, and lots, lots more. Granted, they aren't politicians, but they do throw a lot of money to the garbage.

You ARE tenacious but:

the big dig

the dukasis "surtax"

gridlock traffic 24/7

taxpayer sponsored "fisting seminars"

Clintons vacationland

Smith college and all of Amhearst

Provinctown

Chet and Natalie

presidential hopeful John Kerry

and....rotaries!

Given the volume of Terrorists that reside there....I'd say Michigan is pushing it.

UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA Draws Fire, Lawsuit for Assigning Book on Islam Washington Post Staff Writer

Wednesday, August 7, 2002; Page A01

No one complained two years ago when the University of North Carolina required its incoming freshmen to read a book about the lingering effects of the Civil War, nor last year when it assigned a book about a Hmong immigrant's struggle with epilepsy and American medicine.

. . . But a national TV talk show host, Fox News Network's Bill O'Reilly, compared the assignment to teaching "Mein Kampf" in 1941 and questioned the purpose of making freshmen study "our enemy's religion." . . . © 2002 The Washington Post Company

Could it be North Carolina?

Please tell me what is so great about North Carolina. I grant you it is a pretty place, but it has the homliest people I have ever seen. Seriously, whenever I go to a mall or department store I am amazed by the lack of attractive people. Besides they tax everything possible; even food.

Have to throw in another vote for Mexifornia. Born, raised and still live in Orange County

I grew up in Orange County myself. Lived near Tu Do Street, or as we used to call it back then, Brookhurst Road. People still spoke English in those days.

Your moving from California to Oregon???? That's jumping from the frying pan into the fire. I was just about to NOMINATE Oregon for the award. The politics up here bite the big one. When we retire we're thinking of moving back to California!!!!!!!!!! Believe me, this place has physical, God-given beauty, but the people are mostly warped, and you'll look long, long and hard to find a fellow conservative. We are like fish out of water here. But good luck to you, Celt.
