BOOK REVIEW of: AMCHURCH COMES OUT by Paul Likoudis
AMCHURCH COMES OUT is boldly proclaimed by the title of a new book by Paul Likoudis, that is subtitled The U.S. Bishops, Pedophile Scandals and the Homosexual Agenda.
So what is Amchurch, who is Paul Likoudis and why should you care?
First and foremost, you should care if you believe that Jesus Christ is indeed the way, and the truth, and the life as Christ Himself proclaimed in John 14:6. People of other faiths or those who do not adhere to a particular religion, but live according to a moral code and have an interest in the recent sexual scandals that have rocked the Catholic Church in America, should also find this book useful.
If youve read this far, then you may be interested to know that Paul Likoudis, according to the book jacket, currently is News Editor for The Wanderer (www.thewandererpress.com), the oldest, independent, lay-edited Catholic newspaper in the United States. (The book is available from The Wanderer.)
And since the book concerns sex scandals in the Catholic Church in America, it is the premise of this thoroughly researched book that a parallel Catholic Church exists in the United States; a church that has been penetrated by an aggressive homosexual network according to the comments of B-1 Bob, more formally known as former California Congressman Bob Dornan. Mr. Likoudis defines Amchurch as a deeply entrenched, influential, dissident faction within the leadership of the Catholic Church in our country which has led to a descent into Hell on the coattails of the aforementioned homosexual network.
There are many questions and many varied opinions on homosexuality and more specifically whether or not there is cause and effect in relation to homosexuality and these sex scandals. The aim of Mr. Likoudis is to provide the answer based on the immemorial truths of the Catholic Church which are presumably the truths handed down by Christ Himself.
The starting point for Mr. Likoudis is I that he firmly believes that the Catholic Church was established by Christ and is protected by Him. This seems to echo a recent remark by Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger concerning the "ontological primacy of the universal church" over the local churches. ( see http://www.newoxfordreview.org/apr02/philipblosser.html)
The book then cites and discusses numerous American scandals over a number of years. There is The Ferrario Case, The Kos Case (or Friends in High Places), Bishop Matthew Clark & Gay Activism, and many more. Newspaper articles are quoted, conversations related, seminar transcripts reproduced, eyewitness accounts related. According to the foreword written by the Rev. Joseph F. Wilson, the author wants to bring these problems to light because they are known at the highest levels of the universal Church, and they are not addressed.
Mr. Likoudis is a reporter/activist who shudders at the heretofore silence surrounding these immense and costly scandals. He has critical remarks not only for the priests and bishops involved but also for newspapers such as the National Catholic Reporter, progressivist nuns such as the Immaculate Heart of Mary Sisters M. Elizabeth and M. Johnice, and psychologists such as John Sanford, a certified Jungian analyst in San Diego, who according to Mr. Likoudis, wishes to see that the Churchs position could change and come into line with Jungs.
Christ said He is the truth and St. Paul said the church of the living God [is] the pillar and bulwark of the truth. Pope John Paul II, in his encyclical Veritatis Splendor (The Splendor of Truth) no. 43 points to these words of the Second Vatican Council: the supreme rule of life is the divine law itself, the eternal, objective and universal law by which God out of His wisdom and love arranges, directs and governs the whole world and the paths of the human community. God has enabled man to share in this divine law, and hence man is able under the gentle guidance of Gods providence increasingly to recognize the unchanging truth.
Christ, St. Paul and John Paul have all issued strong testaments regarding truth. Mr. Likoudis, with this 260 page compendium of facts and analysis, has thrown down the gauntlet; the gauntlet of truth. He believes he has the truth concerning the Roman Catholic priestly sex scandals in the United States. Others may disagree. But a read of this challenging book will long serve to provide a basis of discussion, and who knows, could end up being the catalyst for real Catholics to say, Get out! to those who inhabit Amchurch.
