According to Malaria.org, mosquitos in some areas have become resistant to DDT, so it's evidently not a magic bullet.
Questions: does exposure to WNV confer liftime immunity? If so the epidemic should die out pretty soon, as most of us must surely have been or soon will be exposed to it.
And what about a vaccine? There's one for horses already.

DDT, Fraud, and Tragedy -- Dr. Dixie Lee Ray, scientist, recipient of the United Nations Peace Prize and former Governor of Washington State, is the author of the best selling Trashing the Planet, a common-sense book dealing with the contentious issues where science and politics overlap and where environmentalism moves from well-meaning idealism to counterproductive eco-terrorism.

FWIW
"Dragonflies play an important role in the control of the mosquito population. When they are nothing but dragonfly nymphs, they prey upon mosquito larvae, and when they reach adulthood, they eat mosquito adults. This behavior has earned them the nickname of "mosquito hawk"."

DDT and the sum of all fears
The World Health Organization has approved the use of DDT as a means of controlling malaria, a disease the kills over a million Africans every year. But despite the approval from the WHO, some in Africa are opposing its use. Not because they fear it won't work, Not because they fear that DDT poses a threat to humans. But because they fear the fear of others far removed from either DDT or malaria.
