Hannity Blasts FreeRepublic (maybe he is right)
Radio | Sean Hannity

Posted on 08/02/2002 2:40:49 PM PDT by jbstrick

Hannity just stated on his radio show that he has just about had enough of the conservative cannibals on this board. To many threads end up being ledd about news and information and more about attacking fellow conservatives.

He said if he wants to get attacked he will go to a Liberal board.

I have a tendency to agree...

I started a rumor that he's gay. Purely in jest. Maybe that's got him steamed.

He's a good Catholic father and husband, I doubt this upset him. OTH, the boards here have been a bit unfriendly of late.

There's sort of a natural flow to it. In fall people start to calm down as the temperature cools and the days get shorter. By winter we're mostly subdued (and often depressed). Late in winter and early into spring the cabin fever hits and there's usually a quick bump in irritability, but it subsides because spring is a time of renewal and life is usually fun during spring. Then comes the heat of summer. I noticed a long time ago my relationship with just about everyone is at a serious low ebb in August, I hate everybody, it's been hot for 6 weeks and we've got 6 more weeks to go and f$#@ everybody.

There's an ebb and flow, but it's not about seasons or temperatures . . . it just depends on what's happening in the world . . . when we have a common foe, like during SoreLoserman hell, we're an awesome fun-loving effective force . . . when the news-cycle is running slow, with nothing but manufactured "news" like kidnappings and suv crashes, we get weak and pathetic, trolling for something to get passionate about . . . sometimes, out of the sheer boredom of it all, we attack each other . . . but don't count us out when the next real political crisis arises . . .

I think you both are saying important things. Thank you. Lay on top of all that what I believe is a continuing collective PTSD going on in the country, and you have a situation where almost any conflict becomes more pronounced and potentially more lethal.

I've actually been baited lately because the Bush-bashing threads are so damn boring. see, the thing I never get is why the bushbots can't see that THEY ARE BASHING CONSERVATIVES TOO. People can't disagree on this board without alienating their opposition--the very people they will need to help them when the next election cycle comes around. Sometimes a minor, or even major, frustration can cause an extremely major response when fellow conservatives, one's who were your friend yesterday, turn on you.

Bush has deserved the criticism he has received. Major conservative voices have agreed. The challenge is to criticize to help, rather hurt, the conservative cause. No man should be above criticism, imo. You can differ with me all you want on Bush. I'm glad he still has loyal supporters. He lost my trust, but I know I'll probably have to vote for him again. It's probably more helpful to him if you bushbots try to keep people like me at least THAT MUCH on your side.

A very interesting thought. Would you say it was the Clinton years that we are recovering from, 9/11, or something else?

"Only argument I present is that there are many despicible ratz aboard now, in the quise of conservatives. They seek to play the devil's advocate and by leading the sheep can cause division, argument, bitterness, and basically prevent FR from having any unity, thus no power.

How do you recognize 'em? Its easy. Who is caustic and beligerent? Who returns, over and over, to badger and insult, with no intent on honest dialog. What do you do about it? Nothing. Just don't be a sheep. Think for yourself and think before you post. Remember that there are hundreds in this joint who'd truly enjoy having you embarrass FR. Remember that there are thousands reading your words, try and make them mean something."

EVERYONE SHOULD READ THIS AGAIN! Unless you are a disruptor.

I don't think he was just complaining about people bashing him, but bashing all sorts of other conservatives in general.

Then he needs to devote a few weekends to reading some books on the history of conservatism. There have always been ideological divides within the larger movement, some of them quite serious. It's part of what keeps conservatives from advancing their agenda, yes, but it's also part of what makes modern conservatism so dynamic. We are not servile. We are not programmed. We are not like the Left.

Personally, I like Hannity. I listen to him for about an hour every day. But what he just did to FR was far worse, imo, than anything that "FR" might have done to him. He just tarred the entire forum with a pretty broad brush, when all this is is a group of INDIVIDUALS with different ideas. I thought it was selfish and whiney, and I suspect he would like to take it back.

Now.....in the interest of general commity, I still think Robinson or one of the Powers that Be ought to call him.

Many high profile conservatives have noted with regret the deterioration of FR as a place for learned discussion about conservatism. They have seen how the "cheerleaders" bully and berate those who dare question the actions of President Bush as they relate to conservative principles.

The behavior of many FReepers on this thread was nasty, but-oh-so typical of what passes for discourse on FR these days. You guys started in on "holdonnow" on this thread right from the start with snide condescension and went right into personal attacks. He started his comments on the substance of the matter and he was immediately talked down to like I've seen done so many times to others here. Yet you all act shocked when he returns your insults in kind and attempt to denigrate him for doing so.

This thread is an embarrassment. You may be high-fiving yourselves now for thinking you ran him off, but noone in the GOP--not even Karl Rove--will respect you in the morning for your behavior tonight.

Some of you may remember this thread from last month where F. Lee Levin was accused of posting drunk, being just in it for the money, that he was being told what to say by someone else among other nasty shots taken at him.

I'd list other conservative leaders who've soured on Free Republic because of the pig-ignorant nastiness that goes on here, but I don't want to wreck your Friday night.

Keep running longtime friends and posters of FR off, folks. Who needs 'em, anyways.

"His Fox TV show has had Hillary on (twice, I think) and he hasn't interviewed her yet, only Colmes. Frankly, I think he's afraid she'll eat him up."

It is my understanding that Hillary will not allow Sean to interview her. We all know she doesn't like being questioned by anybody who might disagree with her, let alone take her to task for her communist leanings.

You're absolutely right. Sean was complaining about people who snipe at the President.

Good call, Sean!!

I whole heartedly agree. Some of the posters spend more time calling others idiots and other names than they do debating an issue. I usually try to stay away from the libertarian drug threads for this reason and many of the other hot button issues. It gets plain boring.
