Watch and pray. The rescuers are optimistic that they will reach the cavity where the miners are located by midnight, perhaps as soon as 10pm et.

They just reported that several PA miners were caught in a similar situation thirty years ago AND WERE RESCUED ALIVE AFTER A WEEK IN THE HOLE.

04 is quite a way aways. I hope the GOP can convince him *not* to run again, IF Fisher can't beat Rendell. The last thing we need is for Specter to win a seat and then croak with a Democrat Governor.

Thanks for the ping, John.

I watched this miracle unfold as long as I could remain awake. Thanks be to God that they survived!

The miners who endured and the people of Somerset,PA who never gave up hope.....have shown all the world the true spirit of America!

If prayer to God is the reason for survival in extraordinary circumstances then failure to save others in dire need is unanswerd prayers. God deems some prayers worth answering?

Without the men and their machines who rescued them prayers aren't worth a damn. This is all the same stupid thinking that I see when one boxer beats another and he thanks God or Allah.

There will always be people that think you have to apply reason to every situation, when there are clearly situations where reason does not apply. To differ with someone over matters of belief is one thing, but to try to make them feel small only denigrates the perpetrator.

The egg timer is up on Spector's cracked egg. The man in the denim shirt should run.

Sipesville Fire Chief: " The worst thing we had to deal with was figuring out how to pool resources to get those men up. There were two men, and only two memn, who are responsible for this."

Laurie Dhue of Fox: "Who were those men?"

Sipesville Fire Chief: "Governor Schweiker and President Bush."

God generally makes miracles happen through people. God may help the drillers find the right spot to put the 6" air shaft, and he may help the miners find the strength to carry on while awaiting rescue, but the physical work still has to be done by men.

Huh?? The governor yes, the President? How? Did something go on such as his giving the military authority to transport men and equipment? Did he waive rules so that government and civilans could work together. Sounds like something more than just expressions of support by the White House. Any details??

No details yet, although one can assume that the presence of the Navy decompression chambers was a direct result of the President's intervention. Also, I believe an EPA rule was waived in order to pump the water our of the mine directly into the nearby creek. I am certain that there were other things done as well, but this is all I have been able to ascertain so far.

By the way, in case you haven't read it, the big drill used to bore down to the miners was manufactured by HALLIBURTON.

My reply to a comment on another thread :

If the the original bit that broke came from Halliburton, the presstitutes will focus on that and not the other equipment such as the blowout preventers and fishing tools that Halliburton brought to the site. Can't give credit to a company that does real work and was strengthened (if not saved) by a man who is now the US VP and who is hated by the Rats for his success, can we?

< /sarcasm>

Our small company does contract work for Halliburton and they have a big presence in our oil patch town. I'm sure their having a lot of the rescue equipment won't get a big play on the national news, because it isn't a deck-of-cards company like Enron. I'm just too cynical to think the liberal press can have anything nice to say about a business, especially one formerly run by VP Cheney.

Thankfully. The Dark Ages were unpleasant. No need to revive them.

That's fine - you take it how you want it. Like I said, I know the mine superintendent would argue with you - and that those miners would more than likely be inclined to do so as well.

Meanwhile, upon being kicked out of Idaho after losing a major lawsuit to the Southern Poverty Law Center, the stinking bastards at Aryan Nation have decided to relocate--where? Well, you guessed it. Potter County, PA.

Oh joy, that's delightful. My family has a hunting cabin (went there on my honeymoon!) in Potter County, about 10 mi north of Renovo.
