USO Canteen FReeper Style....Liberty R&R to Arizona.... July 27,2002
FRiends of the USO Canteen FReeper Style and Snow Bunny

Posted on 07/27/2002 1:16:24 AM PDT by Snow Bunny

.

.

If you know a Veteran, someone in your family,
friend of the family, neighbor, who served their
country, take a brief moment of your day to thank them.
Thank them for the sacrifice they made
for the better good of their country.

We at Free Republic, and the USO Canteen FReeper Style,
are thankful for every service member
in our military, who has served our great nation.

So, to the men and women who answered the call,
in both times of war and peace, thank you.

.

Message from Snow Bunny to all those who visit the Canteen.

This is how I think of the USO Canteen Freeper Style.
It is like a cottage down a road,
a place where a weary veteran can spend the night.

Since it opened, it is magical how so many
Freepers who post here, feel it too.
It has been so dear how the Freepers
kept making it a cottage - a home-type of place
that had a huge living room
for them to visit in and a dance floor, a library, etc.

Many Veterans have written to me,
saying that the Canteen is like home
to them for the first time since they served.

This is your Canteen -
a respite from our busy
and sometimes troubling world.
Make yourself at home.

CASUAL SATURDAY AT THE CANTEEN

Liberty commences at the beginning of today's
FReeper USO Canteen thread
and, depending on your division assignment,
expires when the new thread for Sunday is posted.

***** A special invitation to our troops and Veterans
to join us in today's cyber trip. *****

Arizona

Arizona from the splendor of the Grand Canyon to the multitude of wildflowers.

Our trip takes us to the Grand Canyon.......Anyone care to take an added trip down into this marvelous place?

Our next adventure happens when we get to......The Havasupai Indian Reservation is located in Havasu Canyon deep in the heart of Grand Canyon. Havasu Canyon is one of the over 600 side canyons together forming the 280-mile long Grand Canyon.

Home to towering waterfalls, beautiful cascades, and tropical blue-green pools this lush oasis is considered the "gem" of the Grand Canyon.

Beautiful Arizona landmark, Camelback Mountain

In a place called Sedona, there is something very mystical about this spot in Northeastern Arizona.

Sedona is unique in several respects. First is that it is relatively lush and seems rather out of place in a state better known for it's desert-like landscape. Secondly, Sedona has beautiful rich red rock formations that jet out of the sandy canyon floor, they look something like enormous sculptures against the azure sky.

Traveling over to Tucson where there are many things to see: ...Sabino Canyon, De Grazia Art Gallery, Seguaro National Monuments. But one of the stops we will take , is the Mission San Xavier.

Mission San Xavier del Blac

I envy you.

The only wolves I've heard howl are all in captivity. I would love to hear them in the wild.

I was on Mount Hood last night around midnight. I'm always amazed at the numbers of stars you can see once you get away from the city lights.

Well, I grew up in the Hill Country close to San Antonio, but I met my husband, married and had two children in the DFW area. We just moved from Gainsville which is on the OK/TX border.

Ouch, that hurts.
The pictures in '35 show a beautiful ship, but after 12/7/41 she became a dirty, oily tomb.
A friend visited the memorial once. His son, about 5, kept looking down in the water and sniffling. Finally, with a tear rolling down his cheek, he asked, "Mommy, are those boys ever going to get to see their Mommies again?"
Well, that opened the floodgates. Next thing he knew, half a dozen Navy nurses were hugging him and blubbering!

I started to say Good Morning, but now it's late afternoon for me and I am hundreds of posts behind (and still at work). As Bunny would say, "Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!"

I know how 4TF says it, but how does one pronounce the name of your mountains?

A blonde walks into a bank in New York City and asks for the loan officer. She says she's going to Europe on business for two weeks and needs to borrow $5,000. The bank officer says the bank will need some kind of security for the loan, so the blonde hands over the keys to a new Rolls Royce. The car is parked on the street in front of the bank, she has the title and everything checks out. The bank agrees to accept the car as collateral for the loan.

The bank's president and its officers all enjoy a good laugh at The blonde for using a $250,000 Rolls as collateral against a $5,000 loan. An employee of the bank then drives the Rolls into the bank's underground garage and parks it there.

Two weeks later, the blonde returns, repays the $5,000 loan and The interest, which comes to $25.41. The loan officer says, "Miss, we are very happy to have had your business, and this transaction has worked out very nicely, but we are a little puzzled. While you were away, we checked you out and found that you are a multimillionaire. What puzzles us is why would you bother to borrow $5,000?"

The blonde replies, "Where else in New York City can I park my car for two weeks for only $25.41 and expect it to be there when I return?"

But ooops! Look at the time! Dh returned today from his two weeks of active duty, and fell asleep with my girls. I need to go wake him up, because he said he had a lot of fitness reports to do tonight. Yikes! I'm a little late. Back in a flash. Hope he doesn't want to get on the computer (ah-hahahahahaaaa)!
