Baldacci outlines health care plan

Baldacci pledged to:

Establish a Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness. At one point, the candidate’s remarks sounded as if they were scripted out of a policy initiative proposed by Gov. Angus S. King in 1996, particularly a provision encouraging Mainers to abandon dangerous habits such as smoking and alcohol consumption to pursue healthier lifestyles. Ironically, King’s council on fitness and accompanying concerns about bad habits — the identical themes mentioned Monday by Baldacci — were dismissed at the time by some Democratic legislative critics as the governor’s “don’t get sick” health care plan.

"Four out of five of the leading killers in Maine are attributable at least in part to behavior,” Baldacci said Monday. “Maine can save tremendously if we smoked and drank less, exercised more, ate healthier and worked and played more safely. Leading a healthy lifestyle is a responsibility of each and every one of us, but it can be difficult to achieve.”

And boy was I torqued when King closed the State run Liquor Stores for "MORAL REASONS!" Remember that? I wrote letters asking 'since when did being Governor make him head Clergy for the state!" I was so upset. Who the hell are these guys to think they should control and tell us how to live. I am totally fed up with this, ozone.

Mainers better get out this November and vote! One person on another thread was so upset with Mainers voting yes on all the bond issues. I never do! Just more taxes we have to pay. But as you see, the bonds passed, and we will be in the middle again. Paying for stuff we do not use.

The RINOS in the legislature are going to start screaming about the budget and the economy after labor day. They want to call back the legislature and start the fight over balancing it before the elction. Baldacci, Michaud and Saxl are on a stall tactic. At most the Rats will call for a widening of the sales tax and say thats all we need. If Joe Bruno is listened to or if Rino Bennett develops some alpha male characteristics they will go at it.
But by history, RINO Bennett will cave in and say again the compromise will stand the test of time.

They were pork projects for Rat infested areas (Lewiston, and the Mill towns to keep the faithful happy.

Maine budget is so bloated with their little pet programs, it's sickening. And none of them want to give in and throw them out.

I'm really tired of being taxed to death in this state, ozone. Did I tell you that we own an SUV and Bubba went to renew the plates, and the taxes were over $380! And I am still trying to find out how to get Bubba's military retirement out of being taxed. Maine also taxes his military retirement. It's a wonder Maine isn't taxing toilets!

Legislator says toilet tax can help fight sprawl

AUGUSTA — There are few places Mainers can sit without incurring a tax.

Now, an Old Orchard Beach legislator wants to take another bite from one of the last holdouts — he wants the state to tax toilets that dump into rural septic systems.

The bill, introduced by Rep. David G. Lemoine, D-Old Orchard, would tax every toilet connected to any new septic system installed after Jan. 1, 2002.
