MIAMI BEACH -- Janet Reno is ready to boogie.
Reno was welcoming fans and voters to "Janet Reno's Dance Party" at a trendy South Beach nightclub on Friday night, reliving the famous "Saturday Night Live" skit that parodied her days as U.S. Attorney General.
"I can't decide whether I should wear a black miniskirt or the blue dress," Reno deadpanned Thursday.
Wearing a royal blue dress and pearls, Reno made a surprise cameo on the NBC show in January 2001 with comedian Will Ferrell, who portrayed her in drag. Reno memorably broke through a fake brick wall, danced the twist and shouted: "It's Reno time!" The fund-raiser has been billed as a way to attract young people in her campaign to unseat Republican Gov. Jeb Bush.
Polls show Reno leading Tampa lawyer Bill McBride in the Democratic primary but trailing the president's brother by double-digits. [The state Dem leadership is very disturbed by this!]
"It's an effort to reach out to young people, people who may not have voted often or been interested in politics," Reno said. "To show them that politics can be fun, that it can be interesting and that they can participate and make a difference." [Uh-huh]
Reno, who prefers country icons Johnny Cash and Hank Williams to house music, often talks about the skit in speeches. Campaign supporters say it shows that Reno is a down-to-earth person who doesn't take herself too seriously.
The $25-per-person event will be held at Level, a popular hangout for celebrities and the assorted mix of youth and glamour who converge on South Beach to party. Reno's name graced the club's marquee on Friday.
Co-owner Gerry Kelly said the response to the event has been overwhelming.
The number of media outlets covering the party forced police to close off a street for satellite trucks and Kelly has fielded calls from television and radio stations in Germany, Australia, Colombia and Venezuela.
"The buzz is amazing," Kelly said.
The club has opened its doors in recent months to celebrities like Britney Spears, Jack Nicholson and Ivana Trump.
While organizers downplayed celebrity involvement, actors Damon Wayans and Marlon Wayans and singer Ziggy Marley were expected to appear at the Reno party.
Other celebrity invitees include actors Denzel Washington, Jodie Foster and Matt Damon.
Reno has received campaign help from other celebrities, including former talk show host Rosie O'Donnell, singer Elton John and actor Martin Sheen, who plays President Josiah Bartlet on NBC's "The West Wing." Reno said she plans to hit the dance floor -- but doesn't want to raise expectations.
Chin first?

the look on the girl's face wearing the blue thing says it all

Dance, Janet, dance!
Now there's the kind of Dade County voter we've come to know and expect.
I'm sure that if this moron was in Weimar Germany, he would have voted for Hitler.
