On Monday, July 22, Coatesville PA city council will be presented with a petition by the Saha family. The petition will request that the city revoke its ordinances of comdemnation against the Saha property. The city wishes to convert the property into a regional recreation center/golf course.

The family has collected well above the required number of signatures. After receiving the petition, the council has sixty days either to follow the petition (i.e. revoke the condemnation) or to schedule a referendum vote.

The meeting is on Monday July 22 at 7:30 pm at Coatesville City Hall. Please attend and show your support.

I will try to attend. I usually sit in the front, next to or behind Dick. Would you be interested in a lawn sign or bumper sticker? If so, feel free to ask him. Thanks.

Thanks for the ping, calvin. I took the liberty of putting a note in the PA Flag list, so all the PA freepers should see it if they're on the alert list. I am working then, but my thoughts and prayers are with them.

I got to catch the Fox29 10:00 news, and George Malle had a five minute report on the story. He did a basic overview, but was lacking in some of the substance we've learned here.

No mention was made that the Saha's farm is actually in Valley Township, although he did say the farm isn't in Coatesville. The blurb from the Mayor of Coatesville was IMO arrogant and dismissive of the Saha's concerns. George also mentioned that the Saha's had a petition to present with over 900 signatures that they refused due to it not being timely presented to get placed on the meeting's agenda. I believe they intend to present it at the next meeting, but the town attorney said (paraphrased) that it doesn't count as they aren't Coatesville residents.

Anyway, I went to FoxPhiladelphia TV29 and dropped a quick note to the folks at the Ten O'Clock News:

Re: George Malle's report on the Saha Farm and the grand theft being perpetrated by Coatesville -- While the basic jist was presented; that of Coatesville exercising 'Eminent Domain'; he abjectly failed to mention that the Saha's reside in Valley Township, not Coatesville. As such, they have no representation on the Coatesville board looking out for their interests. Additionally, no mention was made that Valley Township has also supported the Saha's, and requested State intervention to stop this theft.

If you want an overview of how folks outside of the region view this Agenda 21 landgrab, please visit http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/browse and put 'Saha' into the Keysearch block. Keyword 'Landgrab' will get you more info spread across the country.

Thank you for making a difference; I believe you present more factual, relevant, and pertinent news and local information than the rest of the TV newscasts. Regards, brityank.

I've got TV6-WPVI on in the background now; I'll stop back if they report anything. (They won't; their mantra is "If it bleeds, run it!")

Oh this is real cute. Annex-and-condemn in one neat step.

Sure wish I could read. I thought I would check on the thread before the meeting tonight. We are ready for the meeting, but it was last night.

Boy, do I feel like a smacker. Duh!

Isn't that special. Coatesville can seize their land, even though they are not in Coatesville - but they cannot petition the Coatesville government, because they are not Coatesville residents. Talk about taxation without representation, and one of the most absurd governmental Catch-22s I have seen in some time...
