Van Explodes In Northwest Parking Lot

WASHINGTON, 3:42 p.m. EDT July 12, 2002 - Part of a northwest Washington neighborhood has been evacuated following an explosion in a parking garage located at 5225 Wisconsin Ave. The D.C. Fire Department said everyone within a two-block radius of the site was ordered out of the area.

The D.C. bomb squad arrived at the scene shortly after the 2p.m. blast Friday. Investigators from the D.C. fire and police departments were also there, as were agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

Parking attendants told News4 they heard an explosion and saw a van on fire. They said a man standing next to the van was also on fire. A doctor from a nearby building attempted to help the victim.

A 21-year-old man is in serious condition at the Washington Hospital Center.

Wisconsin Avenue was closed between Harrison Street and Western Avenue. That's all the way up to the Montgomery County, Md. line.

A bit off topic but along the lines of your point, I am baffled by this one. Could someone please explain to me how Allan Iverson can be charged with making terrorist threats but the attack in the El Al terminal of LAX was NOT terrorism?
