Note to moron protestors: the United States government is responsible for its own citizens, not the citizens of rathole nations in Africa. Also, get a life and get a clue.

Members of the French AIDS action group Act-up

These people utterly revolt and disgust me. To speak bluntly, don't have anal sex and share dirty needles- things most average people think is grotesque, anyway- and you have a very slight chance of getting AIDS.

I would rather some of the vast sums spent on AIDS research be diverted to cancer research, heart disease, etc.- because these diseases can & do strike anybody. AIDS can be avoided.

And I object to the rude, confrontational activities of these "activists," too- they are just a bunch of professional malcontents.

"I understand that people want to yell and scream," Thompson said, "but they would serve their cause much better ... if they would help other countries see the light."

They would serve their cause much better if they could figure out that anal sex with multiple anonymous partners is far and away the leading cause of AIDS transmission.

My only question is: Why do we bother to attend these things. We should take the same attitude to these conferences as we do to the ICC ... we don't recognize it, we won't support it, we won't acknowledge it, and we will will go out of our way to torpedo the whole thing.

About 40 people who demanded more U.S. funding clambered onto the lecture platform...

Who was manning the security detail, the Keystone Kops? One of these clymers could have killed Thompson! The US should pull out of this conference immediately.

... some waved placards declaring "Wanted: Bush and Thompson for murder and neglect of people with AIDS."

Uh, I don't think so. I have not heard any stories of either Bush or Thompson going around (supply the appropriate verb)-ing anything with a pulse. If either one had given anyone AIDS, I'm sure I would have heard about it on tv by now. We owe you people squat! And you have the nerve to complain about what you are getting already!!???

Shrieking protesters at the AIDS conference in Spain drowned out U.S. health secretary Tommy Thompson as he attempted to speak about American global AIDS programs on Tuesday.

Thompson should have issued a statement immediately after his appearance, saying that the U.S. would cut its funding for AIDS programs by 50% every time one of its officials was shouted down by losers at any public event.

When Jose Ortega y Gassett wrote about the "modern barbarians" in the 1930s, he sure knew what the hell he was talking about.

The new definition of "modern barbarians" is as follows: A bunch of losers who couldn't think their way out of a paper bag and yet feel an obligation to complain that someone else is charging too much money for something that takes years of research and testing to develop.

According to the CDC, HIV doesn’t even rate near the top 10 causes of death in the United States for either 1999 or 2000 (the latest data available). With 14,902 deaths due to HIV in 1999, it ranks below Septicemia (weighing in at #10 with 30,680), and well below Heart Disease (#1, with 752,192). The data for 2000 are essentially the same.

Risk of contracting HIV is extremely low as long as you avoid risky behaviors like intravenous drug use, and promiscuous sex (especially anal sex with gay men).

Why then is it so urgent that the US spend billions on this largely avoidable disease? Why do the media, and gay activists, portray HIV as if it were the return of the black plague?

Preliminary Data for 2000 (a PDF file)

Data for 1999 (also a PDF file)

Most people with AIDS need look no further than down to find
the source of their afliction.

The US government has no responsiblity for its own citizens
who contracted the disease via their own irresponsible acts... and even less for the French.

I would call these people a**h***s, but they'd probably take it as a compliment, it being their favorite body part and all.

If they're so damn smart, why don't THEY get degrees in medical research and find a cure themselves. I get really sick of the general public who has NO clue about how scientific research is conducted and think that if we just throw money at the problem, everything will be fine. Stupidity seems to be the order of the day. AIDS will be cured when genius is in the right place at the right time with the right skills and just enough support for it to happen. That's a lot of conditions to satisfy.

"Wanted: Bush and Thompson for Murder"

Oh really? Would these people support filing murder or assault charges against HIV-positive people who continue to be sexually active and spread the disease? Of course they wouldn't, because they are trying to blame others for their own problems.
