They say the gunman was shot and killed...no other status of the other victims so far. LAX security is horrible...and this proves it. Not much can be done about someone bringing a gun into the ticketing area...

This makes me wonder if the El Al security is as rigid in other countries as it is in Israel. Hmmmm.....

"MSNBC went back to Julia Roberts wedding, WHO THE FU*K CARES!!!" MSNBC is obviously consistent with their ratings...which is dead last.

Is there such thing as a "public" citizen (as opposed to private)?

How long until Dan Rather ties this to the gun show "loophole"?Or a drunken pilot wanting to carry a gun into the cockpit.

Actually - it is illegal for a private citizen to carry a loaded firearm into the terminal That can't be! If it were illegal to carry a loaded firearm into the terminal then this guy couldn't have done it. Isn't that the theory behind all gun laws? If you make it illegal to own a gun, bad guys won't be able to use them to commit crimes.

Let's hope not. Be vigilant!

It is sounding like the gunman was targeting someone. Or he's just a nut. Any reports of the Gunmans RACE?
To: mikegi
Yep. PMSNBC just said that it was El Al security that shot the gunman. Hey, how come El AL security gets to have guns while our National Guardsmen in the airports don't?

Wonder how they are going to spin this as a non-terrorist attack ? Perhaps a disgruntled employee or an accidental firing ?

Channel 7 (ABC) just asked about a possible stabbing also. They're also asking about a second suspect, a man in a blue shirt?

I would bet that F-15s are being scrambled in SoCal. We should get them airborne on the east coast, too (in addition to those already flying CAP).

El Al security that shot the gunman.Where were all the federalized screeners? Probably holding the 80 year old crippled black woman they were searching in front of themself as a shield.

Thanks. Sad news.

How long until Dan Rather ties this to the gun show "loophole"? And, the obligatory:
What did Bush know, and when did he know it...

I'm not surprised by this. As I've been flying post-Sept 11th, I always wondered why the ultra-security was not brought forward to the terminal entrance. Anyone could walk into the terminal, loaded with hundreds of people, and open fire. This had been previous M.O. for terrorists back in the 70s (Rome airport, etc). Many airports around the world screen entrants right at the terminal front door (metal detectors, etc). I gather we'll see this here soon. Unfortunately, people had to die and get hurt in order for our vaunted TSA gurus to remember lessons from the past.

It could be a diversion. But if it is, it would be a suicide mission diversion. There would be no way for the shooter to survive, he'd die for the effort of creating the diversion.
I hope this isn't part of a larger plot to cause terror around the country.
