BALTIMORE -- Watergate conspirator G. Gordon Liddy on Monday testified that he was kept in the dark about the 1972 break-in he helped organize - even as he lay in wait that night with radio transmitters at the Watergate hotel.

I read "Silent Coup" about ten years ago. This verdict will be interesting.

Believed to be The Washington Post's Woodward and Bernstein's "Deep Throat."

It should be interesting. If Liddy wins a lot of folks are going to be eating crow.

I read "Silent Coup" years ago and was convinced that the theory is valid. I remember seeing Maureen daily in media pictures and on TV in the Congressional Hearing Room, my impression then and still is that she was intentionally dressed to attract attention ..rto

I remember thinking these guys (Nixon et al), didn't have a clue about what was really going on.
Note too all, I would really recomend this book.
Silent Coup by Len Colodny and Robert Gettlin, Pub. by St. Martins Press 1991.

I have also read
Silent Coup. I believe the book nails the Watergate story on the head. When the book came out, it was to be featured on 60 Minutes, but the Wash. Post got the segment killed.
You will recall that none of the media reporting spoke much about the motive for the burglary. Why bug the DNC? There was nothing to be gained. McGovern was running the campaign, not the DNC. Why put the bug on Maxie Wells phone? She was just a secretary. Why did they have a key to her desk?
Silent Coup provides the answers. The Wash. Post never did. I recently saw John Dean talking about the break in. His explanation of the motive was : "It was just real stupid, that's all."

I thought Liddy was across the street at the Ramada.Or was that somebody else?

Woodward and Bernstein's "Deep Throat After reading the golden boy chapters of Silent Coup, listening to Liddy's 20th anniversary Watergate radio show interviews, and following Woodward's follies, I have concluded that deep throat as a specific person never existed.

Hey look....there are monkies flying out of my butt!!!!
Guess since his radio show tanked, he is hungry for publicity.
IMHO Liddy will say anything to anyone, as long as he gets to hear himself talk.
Donning my flame proof suit....

Guess since his radio show tanked, he is hungry for publicity. Hate to tell you this, but his radio show never actually "tanked". WJFK and Infinity Broadcasting simply decided that they wanted to go to an "all shock-jock all the time" format. Within a few weeks of Liddy's firing, he was picked up by Clear Channel, and his new D.C. flagship is WTNT A.M. 570. His show is available for free online live every weekday at http://wtntam570.com/main.html.

That was the OTHER G. Gordon Liddy. See why I don't trust anything that man says? The buglary team had a room in the Howard Johnson which had a view of the Watergate and held the receiver and tape recorder for the bug transmissions.
At the time of the break in, Liddy was not at the Howard Johnson. He was at the Watergate--or outside of it--with his walkie-talkie in order to communicate with those doing the break in.
It is okay with me if you think of Liddy as some sort of a blowhard. That may be your opinion. But you should not ignore the fact that Liddy kept his mouth shut and did hard time because of it. After all statutes of limitations had run, he wrote a book and has talked about his role--rather frankly and bluntly, it seems to me.

Yes he did write a book....a medicore work of fiction IMO.

He did write a novel that I did not think was very good. His autobiography, Will was interesting, and was NOT fiction.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure that the full truth about Watergate will ever be fully revealed. Woodward, Bernstein, and the Post have been spinning tall tales for so many years now that they can't very well ever tell the full truth. Colodny pretty much figured most of it out though.

How many markets was he on com-pared to the number now. Do some research, and you will find that over half the markets he was on have dropped him.

I was not implying that WILL was fiction (though he has admitted that parts have been "imbelished). I was refering to Silent Coup.
