The buglary team had a room in the Howard Johnson which had a view of the Watergate and held the receiver and tape recorder for the bug transmissions.
At the time of the break in, Liddy was not at the Howard Johnson. He was at the Watergate--or outside of it--with his walkie-talkie in order to communicate with those doing the break in.
It is okay with me if you think of Liddy as some sort of a blowhard. That may be your opinion. But you should not ignore the fact that Liddy kept his mouth shut and did hard time because of it. After all statutes of limitations had run, he wrote a book and has talked about his role--rather frankly and bluntly, it seems to me.
