Someone please make links to the related articles on this bill which raises the costs of SUVs several thousand dollars, raises the cost of gasoline, and will in fact make it impossible to purchase some SUVs outright. This also need some major pinging.

One idea behind this plan was that all of the ads in California said to call Sacramento to opposed 1058. Now the democrats can claim that they DID oppose 1058. (wink, wink)
The Sierra Club made this a litmus test for dems. They were told that they would be on the Sierra club hit list if they opposed this clone. One democrat house member said that he decided to vote for this bill after SIX calls to the speakers office

Sounds ok to me. But, then, SUVs are on my list of "Things that don't need to be."

It passed in the house by one vote. Grey Davis make have orchestrated this as a money-making opportunity. Now he has 12 days to say to the car makers and/or the enviros "Give me major money or I will sign/veto this bill."

SUV's further make that division line between the "haves" and "have nots"(in a Dem's view). SUV's are totally selfish and evil in the liberal dem's eyes...however, most(of the Democrats) that are in power drive them, or have someone else drive them to their offices in CA to sneak this into the bill.
If in the market, there was a demand for a smaller car, then there would be more....simply stated.
But that would be unfair...I am so sick of hearing unfair I could puke......

So what was in the bill? What was the number on the bill? The GOP can beat the Dimwits over the head on tv ads with this one.

Any idea how much this will jack up the price of an SUV?
If significant, this might really hurt them come November. Been a long time since I lived there, but I seem to remember that the annual tag renewal was also quite high.

What is kind of funny is, liberals hate it because the wealthy own SUVs, yet, they claim that the wealthy are the 1% of the country who should be taxed to the hilt. So, if 1% of the country is driving SUVs, what is the problem. Apparently, they can afford it. How is an SUV any worse than a yacht or private jet/helicopter?

Sounds like treason to me.

There is a link to a website against the measure at GoGov.com. It is at the top of the page.
http://gogov.com
I'll see if I can get the exact URL for you but in the mean time you can get to it from there.
Also, Cal Worthington has been airing commercials about it on KFI.
Your Assembly Person will know about it. They won't say if they are for or against it but they know about.
Now, I need to get back to html bootcamp. I seem to have forgotten how to put up a link. Anyone have the html bootcamp link? Thanks

This bill is essentially a clone of California's 1989 Roberti-Roos 'Assault Weapons' ban, the differences being that everywhere a particular model of gun is mentioned, they mention a type of SUV -- and also that there were no Republican traitors that voted for this bill like they did for Roberti-Roos.
Bet that Gray Davis will sign this bill. Expect to hear the phrase 'the people hired me to make the tough decisions, so I'm making them' just like every time that pol-watchers think that Davis won't sign unpopular legislation yet he does anyway.
It'll also be upheld in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals as 'Constitutional'.
Pretty soon, New Jersey, New York, and Massachusetts will follow along with similar legislation.
I have seen this movie before.

Wondering if this is a setup for Grey, so he can save the day by vetoing it. I wouldn't put it past the slimy Dems to pull something like this.
There are going to be so many people in line to go to court over this POS legislation, it's laughable.
