[history]
When the legendary Dean Smith was basketball coach up the road at the University of North Carolina, fans knew what to expect when his team got the lead. He'd go to his trademark "four corners" slow-down offense to salt away the victory. Elizabeth Dole doesn't call it four corners. She graduated from Duke, in Durham, N.C. But she is pursuing her own run-out-the-clock strategy as she sits on a huge lead in her quest for the U.S. Senate, a critical race in the GOP's bid to retake control of the chamber. The question is whether voters will keep cheering or begin to boo.

Though she ran for president as a moderate, she no longer supports a ban on assault weapons, an issue that had alienated pro-gun conservatives. She no longer opposes a state law permitting the carrying of concealed weapons. She plays down any differences with Helms, whose brand of aggressive, conservative politics dominates the national Republican Party. In other words, she resembles Hillary in being a carpetbagger, and she resembles Bill in her complete lack of principles.

Well, then send a check to Erskine Bowles.

Well, then send a check to Erskine Bowles.Yeah, Erskine will vote for all of Bush's judicial nominees. /sarcasm.

I used to be pickier about the Republican Senate nominees, but after seeing Pat Leahy and Tommy Boy Daschle obstruct the judicial nominees, votes on ANWAR, and various other matters, I don't care anymore. If Liddy loses in NC, it's a pretty sure bet that all judicial nominees must pass muster with Chuck Schumer, Dick Durbin, Joe Biden, Ted Kennedy, Pat Leahy and other RATs. No thanks.
After the primaries, it's time to close ranks.

Someone needs to determine the best of her Primary opponents, and start rallying the Conservatives. There is too much teeth gnashing, when there may still be time to head off a potential disaster. (I hope that there is at least one, who will understand that to engage a female celebrity, you need to have an extremely courteous, but firm and candid, approach.

Her best primary opponent is Jim Snyder, but he's nothing more than Pat Buchanan without the grimacing demeanor.

That is a good way to look at it. Even if she voted for only half of things I wanted, thats still 5 times more than what I would get when Biden and Dasshole are running obstruction in the senate.

After the primaries, it's time to close ranks. You're absolutely right on this. OTOH, it rankles me to listen to the RINO's bloviate before the primaries that they are more electable.

This is also a woman who actually forgot her position on abortion during the 2000 primary.

It is a sad day to see Jesse replaced by someone like her.
Yet, the alternative is Irksome Bowles, so I hope she wins.
