FW man jailed in windshield death case

By KIMBERLY DURNAN / Dallas Web Staff

A Fort Worth man has been charged with tampering with physical evidence in connection with the October death of a homeless man who was struck by a car and left to die embedded in the windshield, police said.

Clete Denel Jackson, 27, was indicted on June 21 for the third-degree felony punishable by two to 10 years in prison and a fine up to $10,000. He is being held on more than $105,000 bail, officials said. He is also charged with speeding in a 40 mph zone.

Chante Mallard

Chante Mallard, 25, a nurse's aide, is in jail in lieu of $250,000 bail. She is charged with murder and tampering with evidence.

Ms. Mallard is accused of striking Gregory Glenn Biggs, 37, when she was driving home from a bar near the East Loop 820 split with U.S. 287.

Police say Ms. Mallard drove home with Mr. Biggs still stuck in her windshield and left him to bleed to death in her garage. Ms. Mallard and at least one friend dumped the body in Cobb Park on Fort Worth’s South Side, police said.

The son of Mr. Biggs, Brandon Biggs, has filed a wrongful death suit against the Ms. Mallard. The suit seeks damages and court and funeral costs. Brandon Biggs, who lives northeast of Abilene, is Mr. Biggs' sole heir, the suit says.

I don't think that bums have gained the minority status required to be subject to a hate crime "yet". I'm sure that we will soon have some national domicile-disadvantaged advocacy group telling us that bums are deserving of special protection and federal grants ect.

All crimes are "hate" crimes. If "hate crimes" are going to be defined in terms of a perpetrator and victim of two different races/religions/sexual orientations, then perhaps this case with Chante, who is bi-racial (her father is "white"), illustrates why "hate crime legislation" is so ridiculous.

This lady walked in and out of the garage, all the while listening to this man beg for help.

At least she didn't want to bury him until he quit complaining. That show compassion doesn't it?

This horrible event was not a hate-crime. This black woman was not motivated by race when she hit the white man, nor was his race an issue in why he died in her garage. Hate-crimes rely on the DA getting into the accused's head and determining that hate was a motivation. Unless this woman set out to hit a white man, which she likely didn't, then there is not grounds for a hate-crime.

"According to a police report filed against her, Mallard, who is black, giggled several months later as she told friends, "I hit this white man," Fox News Channel, the Dallas Morning News and the Los Angeles Times have reported.

There was no explanation why she was not charged with a "hate crime."

I agree with you that Mallard did not set out to kill a white man. However, he didn't die when she hit him. She watched this "white man" die over a three day period without rendering assistance or letting others assist him. Hate crime? Well, reverse the races and ask Jesse.

Maybe she did not intend to hit a white dude, but she sure as h*ll let him die and that's hateful!

This is why I do not agree with "hate crimes" - they are not evenly applied.

Yeah even when the racially-motivated animosity is more clearcut. I remember reading about a case up in PA a year or so ago, involving a (black) man shooting up a DQ, I think it was-- told black people there that they were OK, they weren't the ones he was after, repeatedly made anti-white remarks before and while shooting his (white) victims. DA had a hell of a time trying to decide whether this were a hate-crime or not. Decisions, decisions. I don't know what happened after all, but there were intimations of trying to get the guy off on some sort of NGRI plea because life had been so rough for him...

This whole hate crime defining babble is, IMO, pointless.

This horrific criminal act was not carried out in any emotion other then hate. Sure wasn't done out of love...

Sunflower... a hate-crime is difficult to prove. It is up to the D.A. to go inside the mind of the offender... and determine what his or her thoughts were. The D.A. in this case likely won't go for a hate-crime because there is not a significant level of public and pressure-group attention. Simply put, there is no public outcry or media echo that demands a hate-crime charge here. It's sad, but that's just the way it goes. A double-standard? Maybe.

She was some sort of a nurse - I don't recall whether or not it was for a hospital or a doctor's clinic though.

This is the guy you were talking about. Looks like he was charged with a hate crime after all.

WILKINSBURG, Pa. (AP) - A black man accused of killing three whites and wounding two others in a shooting rampage was arraigned Thursday on hate crime charges.

Ronald Taylor had ``anti-white'' writings in his apartment and singled out whites during the attack, reassuring a black woman in his path, ``Not you, sister,'' authorities and witnesses said. (Latest news posting 3/20/00)

Mallard and Jackson are animals. They deserve the death penalty, but probably won't get it, because whacked out black women just don't commit hate crimes against homeless white men. Just not possible. Haven't $harpton and Jack$on weighed in on this yet? How Jackson is a victim of prejudice and even her white boyfriend oppressed her...she never learned right from wrong...grew up in the evil South....never had a chance...it's all society's fault!!...gack, I am making myself ill.

Thanks for the update, though. I was wondering about this case a few days ago.

Don't forget that she went in and had sex with her boyfriend before they both wandered back out into the garage to watch the spectacle.

"This black woman was not motivated by race when she hit the white man, nor was his race an issue in why he died in her garage"

You can't know that, not even if you represent either perp. You are speculating.

The fact is that "hate crimes" laws only came into existance because of prejudice. People of color do not commit hate crimes against white people. That is the way it is. Heck, ALL violent crimes are "hate" crimes...including terrorism. However, only whites are charged with hate crimes. Look at that poor black guy in ...Arkansas, was it? who's "girlfriend" carved HIS BUTTOCKS OFF, then left him to bleed to death! That's a gender based hate crime...but because they had had a relationship, and SHE WAS A WOMAN...it is not a hate crime. The media REPORTED it as a "hate crime" when they thought the perp was a white male...but make that perp a woman, regardless of race, and it isn't a "hate crime". Heck, after they found out who the butcher was, the VICTIM'S race ceased to be a factor...because he's a MAN.

Hate crimes are based on prejudice. "Hate crimes" laws should be repealed.

IIRC, he was never convicted of a hate crime.
