Doctors in northern India have removed a 1.2 kg ball of hair from a 16-year-old girl's stomach.

The Dainik Ujala newspaper says doctors operated on Kiran Singh at a hospital in Dharampur near Shimla.

Her parents say she's pulled out her hair and swallowed it since early childhood.

Her father Ajit said: "No-one thought much of it initially. It was only when she came of age that she began to over-do the eating.

"Now the doctors have relieved her of her misery we hope she gives up the dreadful habit. Someone might just wonder whether we don't feed her enough at home."

Local doctor Shailendra Bisht said: "The habit of eating hair in children is usually indicative of stress arising from parental over-expectation. However, a thorough psychological evaluation of the girl is necessary to get to the root of the problem."

She can't possibly have really said that.

Odd that it didn't occur to her parents that this was probably not a good habit for her to have...

The condition is called Trichomoniasis. It's more common than you realize.
I do A/V work and graphics for a teaching hospital in NYC, and in 31/2 years here,
I've seen at least 3 cases.

Would you folks please quit posting this Ananova b.s.? We can all get the Weekly World News at the checkout stand. At least SockstheCat waits until a Friday or Saturday night and puts nice pink brothel wallpaper in the background of his Enquirer/Globe sourced contributions.

You're kidding right??
Trichomoniasis is a protozoal infection of the genitourinary tract, characterized in women by vaginitis. Infectious agent= Trichmonas vaginalis, a flagellate protozoan.
I won't get into details about the signs and symptoms !
