Doctors in northern India have removed a 1.2 kg ball of hair from a 16-year-old girl's stomach.
The Dainik Ujala newspaper says doctors operated on Kiran Singh at a hospital in Dharampur near Shimla.
Her parents say she's pulled out her hair and swallowed it since early childhood.
Her father Ajit said: "No-one thought much of it initially. It was only when she came of age that she began to over-do the eating.
"Now the doctors have relieved her of her misery we hope she gives up the dreadful habit. Someone might just wonder whether we don't feed her enough at home."
Local doctor Shailendra Bisht said: "The habit of eating hair in children is usually indicative of stress arising from parental over-expectation. However, a thorough psychological evaluation of the girl is necessary to get to the root of the problem."

They should give her some grass to eat so she can hack-up the hairballs on a regular basis. Cheaper than a hospital visit, the down-side is stepping on them in the middle-of-the-night enroute to the bathroom. Of course, she would only hack those nasties up at between two and four a.m., and always just a few feet from your door, or maybe in the middle of the batroom floor.

Just switch her Prell with Nair. Problem solved.

Obviously you had a well-trained cat. I had an ex-girlfriend whose cat was very thoughtful about leaving them on the pillows...

The addition of mineral oil or cod liver oil to the diet should help those from developing trichoboezoars in the stomach. Half a jar of vaseline weekly should also be theraputic. I see this daily in cats and periodically in calves that spend the day licking each other.
I bet this girl had some really stringy fecal balls and awful breath. The dentist should have seen evidence of this first, especially if the hair had been forming rings at the base of the teeth. Yuk!!!

LOL.,I have two, and they're really not that particular where they leave them. I especially enjoy the ones on the stove top, and right dead center of the kitchen table, you know, the really messy ones with lots of fluid and partially digested food mixed in.....

As long as she's eating hair she probably won't mind eating a teaspoon of vaseline everyday. Problem solved. Either that or give her the Sinead look.

On a historical sidenote: Dr. Mengele suffered from bezoars. "Common to cats and psychotics"

It was probably still wet when the technicians made the '1.2 kg' measurement. In the old house (with 3 long-haired women), I'd have to fish hairballs out of the shower drain regularly. Looked like small rats! YUK, whatta job.... Didn't have to deal with any of the 4 food groups mixed in, though; only water!
She seems too young to have eaten over 2.65 POUNDS of DRY hair! That would be a whole lotta hair (but I can't imagine what sort of VOLUME that would be...maybe a Beauty Salon or Barber Shop operator would know)!

Ahhh... a classic Bloom County. In a better world, Breathed would still be publishing, and Trudeau would have retired.
