BERLIN (Reuters) - U.S. tennis great Martina Navratilova criticized her adopted homeland in a German newspaper on Wednesday, saying money is the only thing that matters there.
Navratilova, a Czech-born American who won 18 grand slam singles titles when she dominated women's tennis in the late 1970s and 1980s, also wrote in an article for Die Zeit weekly that she believed free speech was being suppressed in the United States.
The most absurd part of my escape from the unjust system is that I have exchanged one system that suppresses free opinion for another," said Navratilova, 45, who fled Czechoslovakia at the age of 18 to go to the United States.
The nine-time women's Wimbledon ( news - web sites) champion, who still plays in some doubles tournaments and last week played in a singles tournament at the Eastbourne International Championships in England, singled out President Bush ( news - web sites)'s Republican Party for unusually harsh criticism.
The Republicans in the United States manipulate public opinion and sweep any controversial issues under the table," Navratilova said.
"It's depressing. Decisions in America are based solely on the question of 'how much money will come out of it' and not on the questions of how much health, morals or the environment suffer as a result."
Navratilova, who is openly homosexual, said she fights actively for gay rights.

"It's depressing. Decisions in America are based solely on the question of 'how much money will come out of it' and not on the questions of how much health, morals or the environment suffer as a result." Hmmm.... according to the PATRIOT ACT, anyone who attempts to influence US govt. policy through the "appearance" of an attempt to "intimidate" is classified as a "domestic terrorist" for the purposes of the WOT.
I don't know about you, but Ms. Navratilova's speech intimidates me a lot - it really hurts my feelings as an American to be criticized in this way.
I'm quite certain if I were a govt. bureaucrat, I would find her scorn intimidating as well - it might even cause me to want to change our govt's policies.
Fortunately with this new law on our side, we have ways of shutting her up - let's throw this aging tennis-celeb into a military prison and see how she likes it then!

This idiot is unfortunately typical of the new immigrants we're getting under our values-free immigration policy. They come here to make money and get over, they have nothing but contempt for our traditions and they spit on us any chance they get. If we had an INS with a spine, they'd revoke this goat-faced traitor's citizenship and deport her to the Czech Republic (where I'm not sure they'd want her either).

Glad to see your re-post, good! I just hope I am not putting my foot in it. Yesterday Pokey 78 put this on and got a whopping 199 hits. (8:45pm). I just used the "search" and punched in Navratilova. The two posts came up. First page was a Freepers delight- ahem (blush) a comely young Russian female tennis player pictured. (wow). Second page, pictures of the latest Navratilova. Oh me, oh my. I will, however say no more- except that the lady is about the same build of Hitman Tommy Hearns when he was a welterweight boxer. Well, obviously the saying that "you dance with them that brung ya" is not in her lexicon. (LOL).

I rather suspect she hate Jews, but won't say that.

Put the ugly, big-mouthed dyke's name on the manifest for the ship we're paying for to remove Baldwin, Streisand, et al.

I suggest she move to Cuba. I'm sure their sense of human rights will suit her.

She's waiting to be called on the carpet for this!
