FL Gov Jeb Bush
Statement from Governor Jeb Bush Regarding the US Supreme Court Ruling in the Cleveland School Choice Case
"I am pleased the U.S. Supreme Court today, in a 5-4 decision, upheld the constitutionality of the Cleveland school choice program. Most importantly, this is a victory for the children who were trapped in some of the worst schools in the country, and for the frustrated parents who had no real options.
The Court's ruling affirms the constitutionality of programs that allow parents a real choice, including the option of receiving an education at a religious school. The Bush Brogan A+ Plan offers real choices to parents and students, and I continue to be confident that Florida's program is constitutional.
As we move forward in Florida, we must ensure that parents are empowered to choose the educational setting they feel is best for their child. No longer can we force students to remain in troubled and under performing schools with no hope of improvement. That is why the choices in the Bush Brogan A+ Plan are so critical to the continued success of our schools. These choices have motivated struggling public schools and improved education for all our children."

What great new!
Close vote.....5-4 but we won.....and more importantly our nation's children have won a chance for a good education.

we must ensure that parents are empowered to choose the educational setting they feel is best for their child.I wonder if Jeb really means that, and if this means that Florida's voucher program will be expanded in the future to include students who are not if failing schools, or any of the other present criteria.
There are other reasons besides academics why parents desire to send their children to private schools, and those other reasons ought to be considered as well.

Well, TA, tell me one place in the country that has what you and Joe Brower are seeking: vouchers on demand for everyone, including middle and high income parents. When you find that school district, let me know. As far as I know what you two are demanding immediately does not exist anywhere. Furthermore, no state has 3 voucher programs like FL!
Everywhere that vouchers have existed have been an experiment in that there are constant court challanges. Give GOv Bush a little credit here for being #1 in the nation in terms of how much he has pushed for his vision -- and, achieved it.
Should middle and high income people ever have freebie vouchers in districts where the public schools are good? I don't know. For if those parents do, then, what about all the homeschooling parents? When do they get a tax break?
And, what about parents who have already been paying private school tuition all these years -- should they now get "reparations" or a refund?
I could go on and on. There are a lot of questions that will arise along with the questions you two are asking solely for your benefit (and not the benefit of homeschooling parents, parents who have already paid tuition, etc.). One thing at a time here!

Well, TA, tell me one place in the country that has what you and Joe Brower are seeking: vouchers on demand for everyone I didn't know jack about the whole "vouchers" thing, which is why I was asking questions. Seems only reasonable that if I refuse to send my kids to the local big government indoctrination center because I'd rather they learn how to write, write and crunch numbers than put a condom on a banana, I should be able to opt out. Vouchers sounded like a way to do that. But, since I've already been moderately successful in protecting my family against the socialist "great society", I don't have that option and instead get to pay twice.
I trust I've made my point of view perfectly clear.

No problem, as many people don't know jack about it. I'm glad you asked ! :)

You can. Pay tuition to a private school, and send them to whatever school you want.

Obviously you are still missing the point.
I want to NOT pay taxes that fund the PUBLIC schools, in order to have the money to send my kids to PRIVATE school. Otherwise, I am damned hard-pressed to do both.
Do you understand me now?
