This post will self-destruct due to the FRHOA covenant restricting multiple posts on one subject.

In Asian languages, you do not see a reference to "God" in greetings. Usually it is something like, "I am going", or "until next time." In a Judeo Christian western sense, though, there are thousands of examples of non-atheist wordings in greetings and salutations.

Does this mean they will have to take down the reference to "God" on our public money as well as remove references from the United States Congress and Senate???

Excellent point. What an incredible development. I cannot imagine the court ever taking this bold, secular humanist/atheist step on September 12th! Or October 12th. Or November 12th for that matter. No. They had to wait to late June of the next year to pull it off. I think the American people may put up with it now that 9-11 is drifting into the rear view mirror and we may be returning to a Clinton's America.

I'm an atheist but I don't see any reason to celebrate over this. I don't really understand why some atheists get a bug up their butt over things like 'in god we trust' being on currency, etc., and then seem to have nothing better to do but to go to court with their complaint. What a waste. (And before anyone flames me, I *like* the pledge of allegiance just how it is).

More proof of need to move on the Judiciary Committee.
Blame the obstructionists for this one.

really? (I'll have to take your word for it since I haven't had Spanish since the 4th grade! LOL!) ... can you transliterate it a bit? ... I'm guess "Dio" or some such is similar to the French "Dieu" ...

Gee, I always thought it was just the opposite of "Good Day" as a greeting.

The Oxford English Dictionary is quite amazing ... I think there's at least one in every library ... good resource for etymology. I believe Billy S.'s (hehe) "get thee to a nunnery" yields a different meaning for "nunnery" than one's first glance would surmise ... I believe the word has been ameliorated through the centuries ... I'd have to double-check from my English Lit. classes but I think that's correct ...

Bob - "Dios" is God in Spanish. "A" generally means "to", but probably this is an idiomatic expression in this case, something like "Go with God" - my best guess as a former "C" Spanish student.

actually the Christian and Jewish God is know by the Jewish tetragrammaton of "YHWH" which is unpronounceable for a reason ... God's Name was considered so Holy that a Jewish scribe had to bathe something like 7 times before even writing the Name of God ... "Yahweh", "Jehovah" are Anglicized words of later works ...
