What do you say about Ricci watching
Elizabeth(if true) now that we know
his 30-yr. prison record & variety
of crimes, including burglarizing the
Smart home. Ed Smart said he wouldn't
have trusted him there if he had only
known. We aren't speaking hypothetical
statements but actual case stuff at
this point, so what about this guy?

I agree with you so much...It would be different if she was walking through the house a Ricci stop dead with his work to stare at her everytime she passed by. Elizabeth would have noticed this and hopefully would have told her parents.

My husband loves kids and sometimes I have to stop him from being the social clown with kids that he does not know, only because kids should not trust ANY stranger. My husband would never harm a child in anyway... he is like Patch Adams (Robin Williams) when it comes to kids. If he see one crying, unhappy or very shy... he is right there trying to make them stop crying or is there to make them smile. My husband becomes a child when he is around kids. He always has candy in his pocket, those red & white single wrapped mints. He eats them all the time, but I have caught him giving them to kids while we are standing at the check out line waiting. I tell him he shouldn't do it... it is actually embarrassing when the parents shoot you a nasty look sometimes, because he should know better. But not once has anyone told him please don't do that or no one has taken the candy away from the kid. Sometimes he asks so silly... that people think he is retarded (I think he has adult A.D.D. Lol...)

The Smart's look like decent and trusting people, probably not accustomed to bad people and also willing to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. I've gotten to the point, that I give every worker a second look and no one, is in my house, without me here. I see that beautiful little girl and the tortured Mom and Dad and I can't help but, think, that the dirtbag may know something, but, cares more about his own hide, than closure for the family. My hopes fade with each day.

Greta just made a good point, she said if the Cherokee was the family vehicle, Elizabeth's hair would most likely be still there...

In today's news conference, Ed Smart said something about the title to this car not being dealt with (i.e. transferred?) until September of last year. However, it would appear that Ricci had had possession of the car since April. Does anyone know the legal hazards (if any) of turning a vehicle over to another person while the title is still in your name? If Ricci had had an accident prior to the title transfer, could Smart have been held liable? I know that when my husband gave his truck to a teenage nephew several years ago, I was adamant that the paperwork be completed immediately, as I did not want to have any continuing legal connection to the vehicle......and that was a situation involving FAMILY, not some "unknown handyman."

Liability would go to who the OWNER of the vehicle is listd as on the title because the transfer was not done. If Ricci had an accident prior to all the transfer being completed, Smart's are responsible. Which also would mean that the plates on the car are still on Smarts' name. Smarts' are definitely on the hook. Then the question of insurance coverage comes up---does the Smarts' family still have this car insured, this can be a major problem. It's like driving a car that is just being loaned or stolen.

Yes. And once again, I find it very strange that a businessman like Ed Smart would make a mistake like this......particularly with a man he says he knew nothing about. (BTW, I'm relying on memory here......did anyone else hear him say that about the title?)

Hannity & Colmes interviewed the parents of the little black girl missing tonite..They asked the parents if they felt their story not being covered is racial...they said yes...The step-father also said that the authorities seemed to place too much blame on the fact that he has a conviction record, which shouldn't matter anyway...Also, according to the parents, they didn't feel that their daughter ran away from home because she was upset and crying because the mother wouldn't allow her to take her snacks to school.

Why was Smart so anxious for ricci to have wheels? Was he working for Smart in some other capacity that required a vehicle?

It just slays me that the media are the ones who aren't covering these other abductions. I'm in a cynical mood this evening, but why haven't those media outlets chosen to run the story of little Alexis, and other little kids? It is an editorial decision being made, and I refuse to be made to feel guilty over this. Howard Kurtz, CNN, and now H&C have chosen to make this an issue. Well, then, they should put their money where their mouths are and start sending reporters to Detroit to interview the family. I"ve heard some conflicting information on Alexis' family so I don't want to say too much more. And it is unfortunate that the volunteers haven't been there to search for Alexis. I'm sure there is some racial profiling (I don't know what term to use) in covering some of these stories. I just don't know, but again, the media are the ones making these choices and decisions on what abductions to play up, and what ones they won't.

Perhaps the Jeep Cherokee was sitting there, and Ricci wanted it and bargained with Ed Smart for it (in return for working on the house.) I don't really see anything devious about the transaction, I think it probably benefitted both of them.

Let's face it: Elizabeth is a blonde, white girl. Alexis is black. Hey, it's the MEDIA, remember? You think they're in this to INFORM THE PUBLIC? H*ll no, they're in it to garner viewers and ad dollars.

These people don't give a fig about the truth, they don't give a fig about Elizabeth. They just want to make sure their Nielsen ratings are up and their papers get sold.

Same thing with NE.

I also find it hard to believe that the Smart family would just give a car without making the legal transactions and transfers no matter how kind they supposedly are. Who in their right mind would give a car out to one of their working people for keeps without the necessary transfers? The only time anyone would give a car to anyone is when they're doing some kind of work or run for them to use. This doesn't add up..Did I read somewhere that Mr Smart said he "forgot" to do the transfer? Was the Smart's still carrying insurance on this car? I hardly believe anyone would forget something of that importance due to having the liability in his lap..what would they do if he killed someone in an accident--the Smart family would be out on the street and lose everything they own....

This is exactly true...And, I was a bit tiffed at how HANNITY threw in the stepfather's face if it could be because he was arrested before! Doesn't matter if the father was arrested before...Hannity needs to take his head out of his ass!

why haven't those media outlets chosen to run the story of little Alexis, and other little kids?

The puzzle. That's the key. It's not racism, or religious persecution against anyone, it's the puzzle. Like with Chandra Levy. It is a case that is SO puzzling (a secure family in a secure home with no divorce and no enemies and no way for an ordinary criminal to be suspected, etc.) and the more puzzling the case, the more the public becomes involved. The more fascinated the public becomes, the more the public wants to help her get returned by thinking it through. The media plays to what the public wants to think about. There are hundreds and hundreds of crimes and missing persons every year. You can't think about them all at once with equal measure. Then factor in all the missing people in the middle east and Europe? It has nothing to do with fairness. But it has everything to do with compassion.

I agree with you; just wanted to say that. It also might be a locale-type thing. How many crimes are committed in the inner-city each day, missing children included, that are ignored? Utah, with it's wholesome reputation, is a better media-getter, IMO.
