Why was Smart so anxious for ricci to have wheels? Was he working for Smart in some other capacity that required a vehicle?

Perhaps the Jeep Cherokee was sitting there, and Ricci wanted it and bargained with Ed Smart for it (in return for working on the house.) I don't really see anything devious about the transaction, I think it probably benefitted both of them.

I also find it hard to believe that the Smart family would just give a car without making the legal transactions and transfers no matter how kind they supposedly are. Who in their right mind would give a car out to one of their working people for keeps without the necessary transfers? The only time anyone would give a car to anyone is when they're doing some kind of work or run for them to use. This doesn't add up..Did I read somewhere that Mr Smart said he "forgot" to do the transfer? Was the Smart's still carrying insurance on this car? I hardly believe anyone would forget something of that importance due to having the liability in his lap..what would they do if he killed someone in an accident--the Smart family would be out on the street and lose everything they own....
