I can't even imagine seeing that approaching my town.I can understand the few who hung out until the last minute. It has to be tough to know your homestead is about to be incinerated and there's nothing you can do to stop it.

Had a little trouble getting the link to work with my Netscape. Got it by going to the main link (www.kfyi.com) and going down the page to "Listen Live".
Listening to Tom Lee show now -- he's is really angry (and I mean blasting!) the greenies and their lawyers who prevented clearing the forest -- either by logging or by manual clearing. One caller calls the fire the SCCC --"Sierra Club Clear Cutter". At the end of this, I expect (or least hope) that there will be decreased support for these enviro-wackos.

In 88' and 89' North Mississippi was dry and there were so many wildfires there was a fog that lasted for days. I hooked up a disk to the tractor and plowed up the ground around my house and barn. The pyromaniacs around here were having a field month and I put out eight fires in my woods west of my house. I feel for those folks in NM, AZ, Colo and California.

No problem, are you referring to post #33? You did not specify who / what. I'm sorry. It was post #32, poster name is uglybiker, and it's on the other thread running on this subject. Biker was also looking for a relative. Friend. Someone. I'll go back there and ping you again. Thanks, Friend.

I pray that everyone is safe...such a terrible disaster. The entire West has been in a drought for so long now. If they don't get it stopped, it will rush up the eastern side of the state with nothing to stop it.

WOW!!

How long before the terrorists realize that all they have to do is drive around the West and toss cigarette butts out the car window? Someone could bring us to our knees very easily.I'm sure they've already thought of this. Don't underestimate our enemies, they are not stupid.

Wow!! Just got home from work. Haven't heard a thing!!

I haven't heard anything more. I suspect they were talking about a fire that had already been burning. Watching Fox affiliate, Channel 10 right now. Fire hasn't hit Show Low yet, but it still could...

Fire hasn't hit Show Low yet, but it still couldHUH? I thought it already DID, hours ago! Boy, I sure hope I was wrong!!!!!

The fire is on the outskirts (west side) of Show Low now - it slowed down alot but it seems inevitable that more of Show Low will be affected. Another press conference is coming up at 10PM where we should be able to learn more...

I am with you! The canyons int the East County (San Diego) are bone dry. The Cuyamacas are not much better. People still talk about the fire of 1970 out past Alpine. I just pray we do not have a repeat. That area has been so developed in the last 30 years! Big rainy prayers to AZ & CO residents from Drought ridden So Cal.

LATEST UPDATE from Jim Paxon, spokesman for the fire service...
STILL ZERO PERCENT CONTAINED
Chediski Fire - 70 homes lost, 500 saved
Rodeo Fire - 115 homes lost, 1000 saved
Fire never entered Show Low proper today. Favorable conditions slowed the fire - temp only got to 87 (yesterday it was 92) and winds were calmer. The fire went through Linden and another home was lost in the Timberland Acres.
TWO FIRES JOINED at about 2:30PM in two separate areas. They will have revised maps and acreages in the morning after the infrared reports are in.
Full fire crews will be out working tonight.
Firefighters worked very hard in the Hop Canyon area. The fire did break through into Cottonwood Canyon and may threaten Lakeside later but there is still some chance it can be stopped. Alot of retardant has been laid down there and chances are 70/30 that they will be successful. If they win that battle, this will stop the fire from moving into Show Low from the south.
NUMBER ONE FIRE priority in the nation. There are 4 Type 1 teams working now.
FAA has granted total flight restrictions - this hasn't been done since the Yellowstone fire. Media helicopters will have to fly at 12,000 feet to stay out of the way of fire crews.
Deputy Secretary of Agriculture will be visiting tomorrow and participating in the 11AM briefing.
Very little change coming in the weather.

I remember the 1970 fire in San Diego vividly. 120,000 acres. I was living in Chula Vista at the time. I could see the glow in the sky and flames lapping up the east side of Otay Mountain from my front yard. In mid afternoon, the sun was a dull orange spot. Ashes rained down like snow. The iceplant in my dad's yard still has a couple inches of ash if you lift it up today. We had to change the filter media for the swimming pool four times that week to keep up with the volume of ash.

One of the reporterettes in Show Low even said that prayers must be working because she can't understand why the fire hasn't hit Show Low yet. (She almost sounded disappointed...)
Another station reported that smoke from the fires has reached Nebraska. Also, there is a little rain in New Mexico and people are hoping it will trickle over into Arizona.

This is going to be one bad summer. If the enviorwackos would let the lumber industry go it and thin out the trees and clear dead trees these fires would not be nearly so hot and uncontrollable.
To: dittomom
(She almost sounded disappointed...) I don't even want to comment on that. And I KNOW you're telling the truth. FREEPERS!!!! PRAY PRAY PRAY!!!!!
