If you haven't seen it, you wouldn't believe it. It's a towering wall of fire.

When will they learn? I have 2 brothers, one of whom is a tree hugger to the core. His latest "concern"??? (I'm not kidding...) Bush will have us all wearing cowboy hats and boots.
To: Brad's Gramma
Bush will have us all wearing cowboy hats and boots.Ask him if he's concerned about half a million acres' worth of spotted owls burning to death. Oh never mind, I know, you just get that eyes-glazed-over, zombie-like silent response.

I'm so glad I don't live close to him. We'd NOT get along, with our politics. It's so darn frustrating. HE can have acreage out in a country area....and do to it as HE sees fit, yet he supports all this junk. They're all so blinded to the SIMPLE FACTS!!!! Grrrrrrr

HE can have acreage out in a country area....and do to it as HE sees fit, yet he supports all this junk.Yes, we call this the NIMBY (Not In My Backyard) Syndrome. Plenty of libs in this area get their mansion in the foothills, then want to pass laws that prevent others from doing the same. I'd rather live in the country than the city, but around here, obviously living in the country can be risky. If we don't get decent monsoon rains soon, this whole state could burn. In fact the whole Southwest could burn. Pray for rain.

Mother Nature sure is fickle.
We were the ones on fire here in Central Florida back in '98.
Now, we've had two weeks of monsoon rains and supposed to get more.

A Towering Inferno IndeedSome of the live shots look a lot worse than that one. Imagine that this fire front is 50 miles wide.

Nothing wrong with cowboy hats and boots. Thank God for the pioneers and the cowboys who paved the way for us. Sorry your brother is so misled.

A group of us were discussing this over lunch today. We also have family and friends in the evacuated areas. Someone in our group said from what he has heard, the experts are saying we are not going to have much relief or rain during monsoon season. It will be more of a dry monsoon. I hope he's wrong. I am a firm believer in prayer, however.
To: valleygal
It will be more of a dry monsoon.Seems that way. I don't think we've had a drop of rain in 4 months, at least. If anything like the last 4 years, monsoon rains have been widely scattered, but with lots of lightning. Local news reports forests are 10% drier than ever recorded. Not good.

They originate on 6m - linked to 6m repeater here as well as 70cm on 447.475. Both still dead. Trying to find out - from local emerg com - what, if any, links are available.
Given the situation, I would expect a lag before the Ham folks on that end can get connected again.

No problem, are you referring to post #33? You did not specify who / what.

If it is any consolation, I was listening to KFYI on the way out of Phoenix this morning (Sunday) they had a live update from Show Low, the Forest Service Spokesman said at that time there had been no injuries or deaths.

How long before the terrorists realize that all they have to do is drive around the West and toss cigarette butts out the car window? Someone could bring us to our knees very easily.
(God I hope they don't lurk here.)

I can't even imagine seeing that approaching my town.
To: strela
I hope you hear some good news, and soon.

I thought of that a while back but didn't want to give the terrorists ideas.
I grew up in the L.A. area. Every Santa Ana wind would bring out the firebugs.
I wish that all arsonists would get caught in the fires they start.
To: Ken H
Thanks. I could sure use some.
