Seamus arrives in Chappaqua (POOR PUPPY ALERT!)

(Chappaqua, New York-AP) -- Former President Bill Clinton's new puppy has joined the family in their Chappaqua home.

His name is Seamus, and he's a chocolate Labrador retriever like the Clintons' late beloved dog -- Buddy.

A spokeswoman for the ex-president says the new dog was a Father's Day gift from Clinton's wife, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Buddy, Clinton's White House dog, was killed by a car in Chappaqua in January. The ex-president has said the accident was ``by far the worst thing'' to happen to him after leaving office.

Clinton contacted the Maryland breeder that produced Buddy and ended up with one of Buddy's grandnephews. During a trip to Ireland this month, Clinton revealed that he had named the puppy Seamus, the Gaelic form of James.

But Seamus was still in the hands of his trainer until Senator Clinton brought him up from Washington for Father's Day.

Clinton's spokeswoman says the ex-president and his dog are having a ``wonderful time'' together.

Yeah, did you catch that "beloved" -- yeah right. They kept Buddy in the White House basement and only brought him out for photo ops. In the videos you can see him looking at xxx42 like "Who is this weird guy?"

It's a terrible thing to do to a Lab pup, because they are so affectionate and really need close contact with their humans. My chocolate girl has the whole back yard to run in, but she's lying at watch on the deck by the study door, waiting for me to come out and play. I hope this poor Seumas (correct spelling at least in Scots Gaelic) finds a real human friend . . . he won't have one in his putative "master."

I think this was from one of those Bill Clinton "interviews" that they do every now and then on the Imus radio show. "Clinton" was telling about how he got the new dog, and I almost drove off the road while I listened to it:

"And I said to Hillary, 'I picked out this beautiful chocolate Laborador retriever, and I decided to give him a nice Irish name.'"

"And she says to me, 'You mean you named him Eddie Murphy?'"
