SANTA MONICA
(Excerpt) Read more at foxnews.com ...
Too bad, this is life. I am so glad we left California. The liberal, softies are running the State and it ain't a pretty sight!
I think it will be a Hell of a lot MORE damaging when Precious Little Snowflake graduates with a 4.0 (due to grade inflation -- can't flunk the little dears, it makes them feel bad about themselves), and realizes that the real, adult world doesn't care about your self esteem.
Adults need to be able to accept defeat occasionally.
Adults need to be educated.
Adults don't get to whine that it's not fair, because someone else is better at something.
The educational system needs to cycle up its two-speed weedwhacker of a brain and start actually TEACHING children. We have an entire generation of children who think everything should be served to them on a silver platter, engraved with "For Your Self-Esteem."
Oops. What did I miss out on in school?
I guess it is either home school your kids or scrimp and save and send them to some elitist private school. Anything apart from Private school and Homeschooling (read Public school) is simply a slow form of attrition on the child.
And do not get me wrong....there are many who go through public school and become assertive self-motivated exemplars who perform excently in their life pursuits...but sadly such people coming out of public school is becoming a great rarity! Rarer than a four leafed clover!
Actually that reminds me of something i saw this morning. They were showing a profile of this gent who started a company called 'Girls Gone Wild' on some news channel....and in essence what his company does is tell college students to lift up their shirts and expose their breasts. Well....the founder of GGW became a millionaire when he was 24 due to the income accruing from the sales of the videos. Now you may wonder....what did the girls get from their 'efforts?'
A T-Shirt! That's all! A simply white T-Shirt with the company's name written on front (for them to tell their friends what they did)!
Now my question is this: this not the product of an education system that makes people, in this particular case girls, so dumb that they do see anything wrong in someone making multi-millions out of their breasts when all they get is a silly T-Shirt? As in comeone.....how slow can these girls get! Although i am sure their math skills are so atrophied that they probably do not know how many zeros a million has! And i can asure you nearly all those girls went through public school...actually i can even go as far as say ALL of them are the 'prime products' of pubic...oooops, public school!
True, but they also had socialist/liberal types in them as bad guys, who were doing all they could to p***yfy the world through taxes, punishment of success, oppressive laws, etc.
Just as Orwell's "1984" is one of the most instructive overviews of totalitarianism ever written (despite being "just" a novel), Rand's "Atlas Shrugged" is the best illustration of the results of budding socialism/communism. The novel contains an entire inventory of all the ways that the socialists/communists attempt to destroy capitalism and individualism. And the successive stages and long-term results of those agendas are shown in the course of the novel.
It's a real eye-opener for people who haven't given socioeconomics much prior thought.
And it's scary that although the events in the book seemed like science fiction when I first read it in 1982, all too much of it reads like today's headlines now.
She was extremely Nietzschean and quite Machiavellian.....unless i am mistaken.
Um... Not really. Both of those imply a "screw you to get mine" outlook, which is very definitely *not* part of her philosophy. In "Atlas Shrugged", especially, there's a very strong code of honor involved which specifically forbids defrauding or stealing from anyone, or even mooching or accepting charity.
In essence the game had two parts: the first was your usual tag, where one person would try to tag an individual from a group! But then at a pre-arranged time the tempo changed, and the game became a variation of a mob slaying!
Essentially the person who is tagged becomes the hunted instead of the hunter as the whole group starts chasing him (it was always a him for obvious reasons eg we wanted girlfriends and thus had to act nice to them). And it was not just chasing but we would also have carte blanch to hit and kick and punch and.....(fill in your favorite physical blow) him until he could reach some pre-set point where he would be safe from the group assault!
The thing is that sometimes we would set the safe zone quite far from where we were playing the game.....sometimes even outside school grounds! And then the chase would be on.
And the thing is that all of us (at elast the ones i still know....most of us are in college now) turned out pretty well, and we have been outperforming most people we come across (the reason i put most and not all is because i may get accused of hyperbole). And we are not anti-social or suffering from any 'social evils' because we know it was all a GAME! And we were not picking on anyone....and we did not get 'depressed' if we were too slow and got tagged! Gosh, i know several folks who wanted to get tagged just so they could be chased!
However if we had tried that in the state of Californication we would probably have been expelled and sent to jail for 'cruel and unusual punishment.' After all they would have preferred for us to get some Barbie dolls and play kissy with them!
Well, how about pulling aside any kid who's playing inappropriately and punishing the kid? I guess if a kid tips over the checkers board on a rain day, we have to ban checkers too.
You bet. Just had an argument with our (female) school principal who wanted to ban poison ball. Why? One kid (a boy) got hit on his ear, and it turned red. I say, let each parent decide whether their kids can play these games. I WANT my sons to get bruised occasionally and to learn how to get up and keep going. They're black belts in karate, and they belong to Boy Scouts, which is one of the last non-wimp kids' organizations around. In scouts, my sons have spent hours paddling canoes in cold pouring rain, they've climbed mountains and rappelled back down, they've camped in below zero weather, and they've dealt with several emergency situations that required quick thinking and toughness. And they're turning into young men. A lot of the schools are either being feminized or queerized. And it serves our sons poorly.
