INDIA -- (House of Representatives - June 18, 2002)
[Page: H3612] GPO's PDF
---
(Mr. PITTS asked and was given permission to address the House for 1 minute and to revise and extend his remarks.)
Mr. PITTS. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to condemn the atrocities committed by Hindu extremists in Gujarat, India , against Muslims and other minority groups. Last week I met with human rights, academic and religious leaders from India who shared reports documenting the designs of the extremist groups against Muslims, Christians, Dalits and others.
Trained combatants in Gujarat entered villages and attacked men, women and children. Pregnant women had their wombs ripped open and unborn babies were ripped out and tossed onto burning fires. Approximately 300 women were gang raped. Over 2,000 people died. I have photos too gruesome to show in my office.
It appears that some of these Hindu extremist groups receive some of their funds from charities in the U.S. and the U.K. We should ensure that no funds from the United States gathered under charitable causes are used to finance terrorism, and we must publicly condemn the violence and officials who support ethnic cleansing.
Mr. Speaker, our government must respond to these brutal attacks and the underlying extremism. The silence of the U.S. Government is deafening.

India is Israel`s new , best friend, and, the Hindu`s were only killing Muslims. Therefore, if you follow the logic of some that visit this page, India is now our best friend. Go figure.

It always amazes me how we in the West expect others in the world to have the same Judeo/Christian - Western Civilization norms and values as we do.
Some seem to think that all cultures and religions are equal. THEY ARE NOT!
We need to wash our hands of these people and stop supporting ANY of them.

Why does the Administration coddle the militants and terrorists in India? Please cite some evidence that the Administration supports these groups.

Boy, we have selective memory here. If you remember it was the Muslims in Gurjat that lit the train with the Hindus on fire FIRST killing 80 or so people which started the violence.

Islam means peace.
I'm sure the Muslims did nothing to incite the Hindus(Gujarat). They are innocent as always and did nothing to provoke anyone. (/sarcasm off)

They are innocent as always and did nothing to provoke anyone. (/sarcasm off) Islam divides the world into "the world of Islam" and "the world of war." The perimeter of "the world of Islam" is engulfed in war, from the Sudan to Israel, the Balkans, Kashmir, the Phillipines, etc.

I support the country of India. Any terrorists that live there should be killed as soon as practical.

I support the country of India I admire your judgement! That is one of the legitimately salvagable places on Earth. What potential that place has if the HAVES start letting the HAVE NOTS into the poker game. They have world class talented electrical engineering and wireless/TCIP design people. Real artists.

I dont think that either of you would agree that an attack by one group of militants against a group of people going about there business gives another militant group the right to carry out revenge attrocities.
I have seen this sort of actions in North Ireland and the Balkans, its usually those who just want to get on and live there own lifes who end up the targets.
Most Muslims, Like most Hindus, in fact like a lot of folk just want to get on, and live there own life.
They mostly have nothing in commmon with those who claim to represent them, and in fact detest them as the old Soviet leaders did of there own people.
Cheers Tony

re : I support the country of India. Any terrorists that live there should be killed as soon as practical.
Your view of terrorist may differ from theirs, the terrorist may just be someone with a better house or done them down in a business deal.
Blanket approval belongs to the Communists and Nazies not to right thinking types like ourselfs.
We question who what and where, which is why we are on the top of the pile.

You've got a point Tony. I have no sympathy for savages, no matter what the religion or geography. Those fools in India are no exception. My thinking is that the Muslims in India are trying to establish their own state, complete with those wonderful, yet fuzzy Sharia laws. The Hindus are resisting. This thing could be termed a civil war, albeit a nasty one.
To: tonycavanagh
Let me ammend that then. All violent predators should be squashed like a bug, whatever their motivation.
India as a whole has promise, though. They've had peaceful transfer of power from one government to another since they gained independence, which is a huge feat in that part of the world. They also gave you Brits some decent cuisine ;)

Good to talk to another reactivated reservist, although I have finished my spate, but I guess if this carries on and if we go for Iraq I will be reactivated again.
Cheers Tony

With any luck I'll see you there.

"...one of the legitimately salvagable places on Earth."
I agree. India has lots of problems. Right now, they're trying to level out some of the inequities - they have what amounts to affirmative action for lower caste people. It's backfired to some extent (just as it has in the US) because it has resulted in a country run by a bureaucracy filled with resentful, time-serving folks who have a stranglehold on the job because they belong to a lower caste.
But India is perhaps the only country in that area that seems to have the potential to make the leap into the major league.

They may not have been killing Christians in each specif example in this group . . . but such have been a LOT for FAR, FAR, FAR TOOOOOO LONG WITH TOOOOO LITTLE PROTEST EVEN BY CHRISTIANS, not to mention "Christian" governments around the world. . . so much so that finally a Jew spoke up and asked why so much silence on such a holocaust.
