State schools Superintendent Nancy S. Grasmick, a Democrat, announced yesterday she will not join Republican Rep. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. as a running mate in his campaign for governor.

Grasmick, 63, said in a statement that she believes she can contribute more to state education in her present job, which she has held for a decade.

Yeah, right, Nancy. What have you done to improve Maryland's public education? Your department is a sham and you are a fraud.

If Erhlich had chosen Grasmick as a running mate, I would no longer support him.

The original title of the article, "Grasmick passes on Ehrlich's GOP bid," makes it sound as if Erlich asked and she refused, but the text of the piece does not support this -- typical Baltimore Sun bias. Also, I heard her husband on a local radio station recently, and I got the distinct impression that he was the primary force behind her being mentioned at all as an Erlich running mate. Having her would be no better than having KKT.

Has he asked Michael Steele, Chairman of the Republican Party, to run with him?

Steele would be an excellent choice!

Michael has not expressed to me that he is interestred in the job and stated to me before he would like to remain chairman, but after his redistricting victory there is more reason for Bobby to pick him or at least have him on the short list for LTG. Allot people are supporting Bobby but if he had picked Grasmick as a running mate those people would have stayed home.

I too believe Grasmick would have been a poor (and puzzling) choice.

It appears that all the noise about her running was started by her husband and her friends.

I have volunteered to work for his campaign, but the selection of Grasmick would have made me quit, and I would not have voted for Ehrlich.

Thanks for the ping. Whew! There's a bullet dodged.

Now she can go back to making Maryland's children ever more ignorant.
