Your web site is quite interesting, even the link names. Welcome to FreeRepublic!
I'll have to try to catch your interview later on when I reach my home 'puter.
To: JohnBerger
Great interview! Plus the radio host had an open mind....unlike the Wall Street Journal reporter who pretty much discounted it. I think I will post the radio interview on a separate thread so as many folks here as possible can listen to it.

I think the liklihood that Padia is John Doe 2 was just raised to 95%. What do all of you think of these "coincedences"

(Forgive me if this is a double post -- I got an error the first time.)
Thanks! NPR's Bruce Gellerman was very interested in the story. I suspect I'll get to talk to him about this again some time soon.
The WSJ guy called me for that story you mention. Though he didn't quote me, he did try to milk me for sources and leads, which was especially irritating in light of the dismissive story they eventually wrote. I actually told him to call Lana Padilla and even told him how to find her.
By the way, I posted new (and I believe exclusive) information on whoisjohndoe2.com today with the results of my attempts to verify when Padilla was (or potentially was not) in Florida, which is directly related to McVeigh's movements in the area.

It might interest you to know that this evening I ate (steak burrito supreme) at the Taco Bell in Davie, FL where Jose Padilla worked. Nothing out of the ordinary there except I think that my burrito was prepared by John Doe #3.

Outstanding investigating. That's what we need more of on
FR, on scene reporting. The google search is getting old.

Not on the McVeigh angle, but a lot more on Padilla's possible al Qaeda connections -- which then potentially lead to Nichols back at the site (I won't try to summarize here; it's pretty long).
Also, here's a little something I didn't post on whoisjohndoe2 because it's a little too weird and may well be an actual coincidence:
The bombing of the U.S. Consulate in Karachi on June 14 took place just three days after the State Department announced that they had picked up "dirty bomber" Jose Padilla's trail at the very same consulate in March, when he applied for a replacement passport.
Furthermore, the bomb used on the consulate was a fertilizer bomb of the same type used to destroy the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City in 1995.
I am a bit surprised no one in the major media has made the Karachi-Padilla connection at any rate. The bomb type is quite likely to be a coincidence (the fertilizer bomb is an oldie but goodie). The target choice, however, may not be.

That is more than weird. Thanks for sharing it with us.

That article in the Washington Post on Sunday did call the bomb in Karachi a "fertilizer bomb." But that need not mean the bomb only contained fertilizer (indeed, I don't believe fertilizer by itself would explode). People claiming expertise on explosives have claimed an ANFO (ammonium nitrate fertilizer plus fuel oil) bomb would not have done the damage the OKC bomb did. I am no expert on explosives, and thus cannot confirm this claim, but, if it is true, it is presumably equally true of the bomb in Karachi.
I strongly suspect the Karachi, OKC, and East African embassy bombs all contained the mixture of ammonium nitrate, TNT, and nitroglycerine detailed on that notebook page entitled "Explosivija za Oklahomu" (Serbo-Croatian for "Explosive Used in Oklahoma") found at the house in Kabul last year. I strongly suspect such a mixture would have had the stronger secondary blast that apparently occurred at least in the OKC and East African bombings. Does anybody know if there was such a secondary blast in Karachi?

Outstanding investigating. That's what we need more of on FR, on scene reporting. The google search is getting old. When I was at Padilla's Taco Bell yesterday nothing seemed too unusual. I just ate a burrito there and phoned a friend and mentioned where I was. Then late last night that damn burrito was making me feel like hell. Maybe it just pschosomatic but I actually felt a weird paralysis in part of my right hand this morning. Most likely it was just psychosomatic since I remember viewing a lung cancer operation film in high school which they showed as a warning against smoking. It was quite graphic and my chest was in horrible pain after watching the documentary. (Effective too since I never did start smoking.)

The bomb type is quite likely to be a coincidence (the fertilizer bomb is an oldie but goodie). The target choice, however, may not be. Has any group ever used this bomb other than the Middle Eastern terror network that includes al Qaeda, bin Laden, and Saddam?

I can't speak to that definitively, but the Chronicle story says: "Campus radicals detonated a similar mixture outside the Army Math Research building at the University of Wisconsin in Madison in 1970."
To: JohnBerger
Thanks for the information. I will research that one to see
how the damage compared to the others on the list above.
Keep up the good work.

This was taken while Padilla was attending the Darul Uloom Islamic Institute 1993-1995.
I had this posted as part of the newsweek article-From Taco Bell To Al Qaeda (which was pulled because newsweek is owned the wash. post)- since this was the largest of the threads related to Padilla, it is now added here.

Does anyone have a mugshot of McVeigh associate Michael Brescia, who is in prison for armed robbery? I would like to see now if the resemblence is as strong between John Doe2 and Brescia, as it is with this dude.
