I thought it was interesting how they caught the guy. Nice of him to take save the state some money by carrying out his own death penalty.

Personally I don't understand why states take steps to prevent those accused of convicted of capital crimes from killing themselves.

Excellent! I love it when criminals carry out their own execution.

Not sad news, but sad for the families of the victims that they won't watch him die by execution, or hear his reasons for what he did. At least they can piss on his grave.

Police determined that a map accompanying the letter had been downloaded from the Expedia.com Web site; investigators with federal subpoenas traced it to Travis' home computer.Proving once again that anonymous websurfing is a myth.

Personally I don't understand why states take steps to prevent those accused of convicted of capital crimes from killing themselves. The problem is in separating genuine suicides from "suicides" arranged by Correctional Officers and/or the Police. Without extra efforts to keep things under control, the slide to extrajudicial death squads is slippery and steep.

nothing wrong with "extra-judicial" deaths. bring them on.

MapQuest is a source of evidence for murder charges? Yikes.
To: LurkedLongEnough
I meant Expedia... but I use MapQuest.

The only, and I mean ONLY down side to this is that if he killed more women and hadn't admitted it yet those victims will never be found.

Tracing Expedia.com maps? Jeez...The newest "weapon" in the War on Terrorism.

We should make rope available in all cells. We could be on to something here.

>Excellent! I love it when criminals carry out their own execution. You know, that's an interesting thought.
Perhaps every prison should have an array of options available 24/7: painless poisons, gallows, guillotines, shooting squads, etc.
If any prisoner wants to get out of his sentence, he should have ready access to these alternative exits...
(With all the academics out there wasting tax dollars on "studies," I'd like to see how much tax money such a system would save the US by thinning out the prison population along purely voluntary lines...)

I vote we send in Dr. Death himself to visit those "sick" in prison...I can't think of his name, but he's known as the suicide Dr. (is it Kavorkian?)

nothing wrong with "extra-judicial" deaths. bring them onDo you work for the ATF or the FBI? You should. They feel exactly the same way. They decided to do away with those pesky Branch Davidians without bothering the court systems. Let me see if I can remember what the ATF applied the death penalty to 60+ people for. Yes, I rememeber - being accused of having an untaxed machine gun. Certaintly worth the death penalty in any facist police state.

Oh noooooooo they looked into his computer......can the ACLU be far behind with their lawsuits?

I'd like to see how much tax money such a system would save the US by thinning out the prison population along purely voluntary lines. Plenty.
But doesn't this fly in the face of having the family enjoy the killer's suffering?
Death's a relief to plenty of these folks. Why not twist the knife with a life sentence of labor and no TV?

Just because you are accused doe's not mean you are guilty. The best reason though would be the same used against assisted suicide. The govt. should not assist those in temporary mental duress in killing themselves. Were it only possible to read minds life would be easier.
