U-TURN: BUSH ADMIN OUTLINES 'GLOBAL WARMING' EFFECTS ON AMERICA; ACKNOWLEDGES DAMAGE

DAMAGE

In a stunning U-turn for the Bush administration, the United States has sent a climate report to the United Nations detailing "specific and far-reaching effects" that it says "global warming will inflict" on the American environment.

MORE

Also for the first time -- the White House places "most of the blame for recent global warming on human actions -- mainly the burning of fossil fuels that send heat-trapping greenhouse gases into the atmosphere," the NEW YORK TIMES is planning to report on Monday Page Ones, according to publishing sources.

As for what the Bush Administration REALLY did, said, or implied: I'll withhold judgement, at least until we get the information straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak. That's infinitely preferable to waving the latest rumor as gospel, only to backpedal frantically when the story starts really smelling like a demoRAT.

I think if you'll check, a lot of us have made our commments in the sense of "assuming this is true, then..."

Nothing wrong with that, when we're dealing with an early report.

This will be the third or fourth time that the Clinton holdovers and the AFSCME drones in the bureaucracy have slipped one out the door in an effort to embarrass the Administration.

Nick gets it so right here. Thank you! I think if GWB ever got a look at this thread he'd see the "shoot first, ask questions later" crowd bubbling into a froth, and the self-styled "purists" looking for the first opportunity to throw him over-board and install in his place their visions of utopian anarchy!

Bush continues to run circles around the libs that openly despise him and the fair-weather conservative and dweebs that have to this point merely pretended to support him.

Bush back the Kyoto treaty? C'mon! What better chance to have done so last year? His detractors must be simply disingenuous themselves in that they mererly appear to want Bush to become as disingenuous as they already are.

Good call, Nick!

Check my link above. I repeat, I am not completely unaware of the big picture.

However, even if human activity is having little or no effect on global warming, but science shows nature is leading us into a hotter global climate that will make human survival harder, should we ignore it or not try to ameliorate its effects?

Dear God! T-shirt and infowars were banned!? This is getting scary.

Amazing how you know so much about those Freepers, as they were banned long before you ever registered.

Infowars, I saw his posts. He was an awesome freedom-loving Freeper -particulary with the 2nd Amd.

And, of course, you were never moved to register and comment. Yeah, right.

What was your old screen name, and why did you get banned?

The essense of real science is an open mind.

I agree.

I once believed in Global Warming, and I happened to be a Broken Glass Republican at the time, mind you.

I sifted through the evidence, and I found that no - CO2 emissions have not changed the Earth's temperature.

I'm not saying that it can never happen, but it hasn't yet.

Trying to find if CO2 is ruining our environment is a noble pursuit, but the proof is in, and we're safe (for now).

Matter of fact, the Earth's temp has been declining for the last 20 years.

I remember when clinton was president and a postive article regarding his presidency was published from the NYT how every freeper would tear the story apart. Now, the NYT and Drudge haven't even published an article, just a tidbit, they know will stir up conservatives and you all fall for it. What happened? Where's common sense? Is everyone playing right into the planned democrat smear campaign?

So far, Bush's sell out act is fairly convincing. He sold out on almost every important issue while he was governor of Texas and he is off to a frightening start in Washington. Post me a list of his conservative victories and convince us that the naysayers are wrong.

I can defend the administration in general and disagree with certain issues. If this story is true, then this is one of them. We'll just have to vociferously oppose this particular issue, and cite science to back us up(and there is as much data indicating Global Waming is bunk and what is cited as evidence to its cause). Maybe this is the straw that breaks the camel's back, and forces Karl to rethink or go. At first glance it looks like Rove triangulation gone too far. Then again, remember that Bush said on the campaign trail that there was evidence of global warming, he just strongly opposed the RAT politicization of it and their destructive solutions. So this wouldn't be a U-turn, but rather a surprise gone far beyond expectations. Leave it to the NY Times to misportray it.

Every administration at some point early on makes a staggering blunder, and either learns from it or sinks. Let's make sure this is a that watershed moment, but let's not destroy Bush in the process. If true, this is a huge mistake, let's make sure it is recognized as such, and learned from.

"It's scary to see these good people being banned while we still have absolutely liberty-hating ilk here such as Texasforever, Roscoe, ArneFifkin, and others contaminating this place."

Another attack like that on other freepers and you'll be out the same door.

t-shirt was banned once, came back as infowars. The boy can't learn apparently.

Oh, I don't know. I thought he was much better as infowars than t-shirt. Maybe he'll grow up some more and come back as greengoo.

It's not do much the science we have is "junk" as it is just plain incomplete. One has only to watch how often a 3 day forecast is wrong to be concerned that a 25 or 50 year forecast is going to be much further off. I would ask people to also use a little common sense (with all that science) and try answering the following questions: 1. At some time in the past, were there glaciers in Minnesota? 2. At some time in the past were there dinosaurs in Minnesota? 3. Did man burning fossil fuels cause the glaciers and dinosaurs in Minnesota to disappear? (Hint: the answers to 1 and 2 are YES, the answer to 3 is NO!)
