i Heard on the radio today that the FBI has no agents in NJ who speak Arabic--a full 8.5 mos. after 9/11. AND THEY ARE CONDUCTING THE SEARCH FOR CANDIDATES IN MUSLIM COMMUNITIES.

I hate traveling by air now - but my job requires it. Never know if there will be a 2 hour delay or 5 minute one. I also get tired of watching little old ladies searched. I once had a New Testament examined page by page - got a dirty look when I told him it was from the wrong religion. I also once watched while a fellow passenger had his electric razor taken. I asked the attendant what he was worried about - getting the closest shave of his life? Got another dirty look for that.

Makes sense to me. Unfortunately for the airline industry, the cost (and I don't necessarily mean monetary) is too high to fly these days. I didn't like flying before 9/11, given the uncomfortable seats and the unnecessary waiting around, but now it just plain stinks.

Plus, when I drive in selected states, I can take my Glock. :^)

It doesn't seem like people in India have much problem figuring out who is likely to attack the Hindus either. The US was able to figure out who was likely a Nazi in WWII but that's because it wasn't a problem with political correctness then.

Why would our "new and improved" Federal unionists start doing anything sensible or constructive? Maybe:

1. Don't have the sense God gave a pissant,
2. Don't know the difference between olive skin color and a tan,
3. Depending on sexual proclivity, are having too much fun fondling stews, large bosomed female fliers or men with "packages" that AlGore (or Tipper) dreams about,
4. Cannot get over their new "I am now a federal GOD" complex,
5. It's just too much damn fun frightening the beejeebers out of the old and the infirmed by screaming and hollering at them if they don't do "as they are ordered",
6. Hell, they don't give a damn... They are there for the new gov't. handout disguised as a paycheck.

Not 30,000 of them, now nearly 100,000 (R.Limbaugh). How many are probably illiterate?

MAYBE, JUST MAYBE there are Stingers loose in the countryside??? I think I'll do a lot of gardening and fishing this summer... Locally...

There is a subtle truth here that it hard to explain to moderates. What would happen if we allowed ethnic profiling? Well, the truth is that any Muslim highjacking cells would put forward the least Arab-looking cell members to front the operation. Or they might even try to get their girlfriends to do it.

So pure ethnic profiling is not what is needed. Instead what is needed is subtle profiling based partly on ethnic appearance but mostly on dress, nature of luggage, demeanor, and behavior.

One additional thing. If we are really serious, any person who is who is suspected of being on a terrorist scouting mission will be carefully searched, seated between plainclothes air marshals, and THEN ALLOWED TO FLY. Serious security requires serious intelligence, and serious intelligence only comes from taking intelligent risks.

As a personal anecdote, I work for a government lab, focusing on counter bio-terrorism. I am, as a result, forced to travel, almost non-stop since 9/11. I constantly see Arab american males, passed through screening in favor of older ladies and men. I am frequently searched as I board planes, and I can't understand why. I am a fair skinned, blond haired blue eyed male. It all just doesn't make sense. There is NO COMMON SENSE being employed in the "security screenings" taking place at all of our airports. Political correctness must take a back seat to our nation's security.
