Ganske-Salier primary race tighter than expected

The Republican primary race for the U.S. Senate is tighter than expected with the emergence of Bill Salier as a strong candidate against Rep. Greg Ganske, according to GOP political observers around Iowa.

Salier, a Nora Springs farmer and first-time political candidate, is attracting support with a conservative message that includes staunch opposition to abortion, Republicans say. Ganske, a Des Moines physician who also opposes abortion rights, has been tied down since Easter by an eight-week congressional session in Washington, campaigning only on the weekends.

This is a butt-covering article by the DM Register, who has all but blown Salier off till now.

It does not look good for Ganske. Other than DM, I don't see where his base is energized. Since only the core people usually vote in the primaries, and those are mostly Salier people, where are the votes going to come from?

Ganske has done several internals. They are so bad that they are not releasing them.

If anecdotal evidence means anything, Salier has a lot of support across the countryside. I drive the Western half of Iowa regularly and see signs everywhere. What's your take on the GOP governor's race?

I hope Salier wins. I've contibuted to his campaign since he appears to be a supporter of the Constitution.

Here in in the SE corner is it all Vander Plaats. More northward up by Muscatine it seems to be Gross. The only one I don't care for is Sukup. He was a little too cozy with Comrade Fallon's Smart Growth BS till we scared him off of it.

The bottom line is that despite the GOP trend in this region, the commie lib will probably win reelection. I am less partisan than most here, but Harkin is one of my least favorite senators. What a mess.

If I'm not mistaken, Ganske is a tad on the RINO side. Maybe more than a tad. If Sailer is a decent conservative, than best of luck to him. A youngblood jarhead full of pi** and vinegar is just what Iowa needs to confront Harkin. I just hope the man is serious about WINNING, and not doing this simply to get his name listed in the political graveyard.

In order to defeat a liberal, you need to attack first. If Mr. Sailer or any of his supporters are reading this, I strongly suggest they read-up on David Horowitz, particularly his pamphlets "How To Beat The Democrats", and "A Pocket Guide to Political Victory". Both can be ordered from www.politicalwar.com. FIGHT LIKE A BRAVE!!!.

I guarantee you if Bill wins the primary, we will show no mercy toward Harkin. Bill may lose, but Harkin will be exposed. If Bill does beat Ganske, tell them boys up there to send some money our way. 85% of Harkin's comes from out of state, and you can bet the enviros will dump in everything they can. They want the farmland nationalized here ASAP.

And, from politics1.com, if Ganske loses to Sailer, his RINO butt will be OUT of congress. I just checked and Ganske voted for McInsane's CFR, supports planned parenthood, and has a D- rating from NRA. GO SAILER!! Hoping for good riddance for Ganske.

You need to get Bill Sailer listed on The Madison Project (for Conservative candidates). Check it out.

If Iowa GOP votes Salier as its nominee, there will be a lot better reason to vote than Ganske is not Harkin. Go Salier. Salier is not Harkin and also is not Daschle in GOP drag.

Trust us Iowans on this one: Salier is the far better warrior to take on Harkin. If I were Harkin, I would be quaking in my boots at the thought of facing Salier.

Ganske held a fund-raiser with President Bush in Cedar Rapids, and Salier brought in retired Lt. Col. Oliver North for an event.

I'm very supportive of President Bush. Karl Rove, however, gets on my nerves. I'm sick and tired of the White House sticking its nose into primaries, and I would love to see Salier send yet another message to Rove to buzz off. Not to mention I think he's a better candidate to take on Harkin.

Yes, and if I had contributed to RNSC, I would be very angry at them donating my money to Ganske in a primary. They should save their funds and get involved AFTER primaries.

For all those nonIowans out there: You need to see this campaign to believe it. Those attending events for Salier are excited, energized, thrilled to finally being involved in a campaign with a candidate with this kind of guts and charisma.

It has given me new hope. First, a candidate who will say the truth and then to see the thousands of voters who will do everything they can to see him win this primary. It has all been done on a shoestring.

The stories we keep hearing are heartening. It's a great day to be a conservative Republican.
