FReeper Sleuths! Gary Condit and the Mystery of the Chandra Levy Pinky Ring!

"Police believe this missing tiny pinkie ring could be the key to solving the Chandra Levy murder case.

A gift from her mother, Susan in 1998, it was one of the 24-year-old Bureau of Prisons intern's most cherished possessions and her family has said she wore it constantly.

The 14-carat gold ring was bought for $416 and has two diamond chips and the initials "CL" inscribed.

But it was not among the personal items found during the extensive police search of the wooded hillside in Rock Creek Park where Levy's remains were discovered last week, Washington police spokesman Joseph Gentile said yesterday. "

After doing an exhaustive search of my own image archive, I could only find one image where Chandra is shown wearing a ring (below left). This ring happens to be on her ring finger and NOT on her pinky as has been reported in the press. Certainly, it may be a different ring, but it might just be the one described above and pictured below.

In this thread, FReepers brigette and Helen, along with others, were discussing this ring and the ring on Condit's finger found in the photo below . I have also searched my personal news photo archive and simply cannot find another photo of Condit wearing ANY rings..or any ring at all!

Now, some would say that Condit would be insane to wear Chandra's ring, but I say he's a nut, and at this point in the investigation (I believe, August of 2001), a point where he took a little swipe at a photographer, he had this small ring on his finger? And if you were the guilty party and had the ring, what better place to keep it but on your very own finger.

Was this an act of Providence? Coincidence? Maybe both. But either way, I'd like to see, and the police should certainly see, an enlargement of that photo with Condit wearing a tiny little ring on his pinky finger.

So what gives FReepers? Can any of you find an image of Condit where he is wearing a ring on ANY of his fingers?

The report that they found the ring were not true according the DC nonpolice.
Her ring, and the bracelet that Condit gave her are both missing. I suppose we are supposed to think it was a random robbery, but I think her skinny, girlie man, slime bucket murderer took them and dumped them so she could not be indentified, or so the moron thought.
They needed to check the dumpsters near the strip parlors where the kinky weirdo hung out.

SQUITIERI: Correct. One of the gifts that she said, Joie, that the congressman gave her was a gold bracelet. And during the visit to the relative's home during Passover, which is in early April, in this very room and I can see the video on, that's the relative's home, she -- you can see the gold bracelet there on her wrist. And at one point she told the relative that this came from Congressman Condit -- this was given to her by Congressman Condit.

Okay, so let me see if I can construct a plausible scenario here. Condit and Levy, playing the games lovers play, exchange meaningful articles of jewelry (her ring, his watch). On July 10th, 2001, Condit is observed ditching the watchbox on the day that he agrees to allow police to search his apartment. Concurrently, police begin searching Rock Creek Park extensively.

While circumstantial, does it not appear that Condit knew Levy was dead and located in Rock Creek Park, and that his watch would be found with the body? Would that not explain his need to get rid of the evidence tying him to the watch? And given that Levy's apartment had been searched and Condit, apparently, had not been approached about a man's watch found there, would the only reason for him to get rid of the box be that he knew the watch was with her and suspected her body would be found soon? Does this not indicate that he knew where the body would be found?

On the Washington DC Police Missing Person Website she was listed as being 5'4" and about 110#

I found a very long and very detailed time line on where in the World is CHandra Levy web sight; Interesting informaton about the apartment:

• Chandra arrives in Washington to occupy her new apartment in The Newport condominiums and to prepare to begin her internship. • The building has a video system and a 24 hour desk person. • On Friday August 3rd ,in an exclusive online "Instant Message" Q & A session with Denis Edeline, co-owner of the condo in which Chandra Levy resided, he said in answer to some specific questions: • "The front door is operated by the desk person. Tenants do not have keys or cards to the front door. They must be 'buzzed' in by the desk person. There is a back door to the building, anyone can walk out the door, but they must have a key to get back in. Once out the glass back door, you are in a gated patio area and you must have a key to get in and out of the back gate. Otherwise, one would have to climb over the back fence." Asked about what would happen if the desk person took a break, Edeline said, "there was no break...just bathroom break...but that is a very good question...they had to wait outside the door...or until someone went out....they'd walk in....it was annoying at times.... • "Your back door question....there are actually two different sets of stairways to get to the condo (plus the elevators). One of the stairways exits in the mailbox area...which is next to the back door. So...yes, you would not pass the desk person to go to the back door if you were descending the steps. However, I really don't think that anything happened to Chandra in the building. But that is my opinion." • "There is a laundryroom on every floor in the Newport. No key is needed. It is very small...just room for a washer and a dryer....and a space for you to stand...it is just down the hall from the condo....one apartment away."

SOunds like it would be very difficult to take her from her apartment.

Found one picture of Condit and Levy together. She was about nose height on him. If she is 5'4", that would make him about 5'9". If this were a ring-finger, rather than a pinky ring, I would think it is possible that it fit Condit's pinky.

Fact: Chandra was found with a black spandex pants, (knotted), and a t-shirt.

They found a sweatshirt, not a T-Shirt.
