The Levy family says Chandra was never without her gold pinkie ring, seen here in an artist's conception.

One of Condit's biggest bosom buddies and double-dating party animals in Washington was erstwhile Congressman Kasich, who quit and left DC in one hell of an unseemly and undignified hurry. He skedaddled home to beautiful Ohio and was married and the father of a family in what seemed like days. Although a shoe-in for re-election, he decamped DC faster than a whore from a bible class. Nobody knows why.

I'm not going to let Kasich off the hook, but this is a distortion of time/fact. Kasich dated his now-wife for some years, they were engaged to marry after '96 election, married March '97. He said he planned to retire from Congress while he was in the middle of his try at president, leading some to speculate that Bush was going to be giving him some job in the new administration, perhaps OMB Director, as a sort of consolation for dropping out. I wouldn't exactly call his DC departure as something out of the ordinary.

That said, he has had no comment whatsoever to any question posed regarding his good buddy, Condit, changed the subject when a newspaper reporter tried to ask about the Levy case last year. He does spots on FOX, nothing live yet, as far as I know, only taped stories. I find it telling, in a way, that he would have no public comment, either to bemoan the loss of such a good friend or to support Condit wholeheartedly with a "Gary would never be involved in this kind of thing."

um, That was HIS story. He wasn't after their walkmans. The totality of the picture shows he was a rapist and after the women.

She still could have had a couple of bills in her sock or shoe or something. But why didn't she take her cell phone?

Because she had already spoken to the person she was waiting for a call from, Condit, they had set up this date, with either him picking her up or her meeting him in the park.

Actually,DDave, I think this is another indication that Condit, (& therefore Chandra) were into something much bigger than just a murder. This was, in comparison to what time span that the FBI got involved??? The FBI already had materials, (like the ID of Anne Marie Smith and Rossi) long before the murder happened! FBI didn't want any local police knowing about national security issue and possible blowing an operation they had inplace for years. (Will be a great MOVIE!)

Has Kasich given any reasons for his abrupt departure from DC and his quick return to Ohio?

He did not depart abruptly, he announced during his run for president that he would be retiring his seat. He had been an MOC since 1983, he was no longer eligible, by Conference rules, to be chairman of the Budget Committee. To be fair, not every member spends 30 or 40 years in the House.

Does anyone know the current whereabouts of Gary Condit? The last I heard, he had "disappeared" on the morning that Chandra's remains were found. Have there been any "sightings" of him yet?

Could this be what he meant when he told AMS that he "might be in some trouble and have to disappear for awhile", way back last summer?

Well then, Condit is one "lucky" fella. He's got a girlfiend on his hands that wants him to marry her, which he has no intentions of doing. His wife comes to town, and by a quirk of fate, some predator does the girlfriend in. Just another coincidence that he stopped calling Chandra at that time too, before anyone knew she had disappeared. And the call to his other girlfriend, concerning a trial, etc., must also be a coincidence.

I'm sorry, I just can't buy it.

I've been asking folks as well. Last I read, his staff say he's "in hiding." I don't know what they intended to imply with that, I'm going to assume they just mean he's trying to keep away from the press, mikes in his face, etc. I hve been wondering why he wouldn't be attending House session, has been missing votes, for the ONE place the guy can be where reporters and the cops have no access to him is the House floor ... only members and former members may be in that chamber. And recall, all the gals of the CA House Delegation were his personal bodyguards last year, we had the story on how they were a "protective circle" for him. Plenty of ways for him to get off the floor without having to be acosted as well, the doors out of the cloakrooms go to the private elevators, the private subway, back to his office where the staff will at least keep the reporters out.

Do they mean he's not at his DC home, but is in a hotel somewhere? Is he back in CA??

Yeah, he's really acting like an innocent man unjustly and unfaily accused ....

Just another coincidence that he stopped calling Chandra at that time too.

As I wrote on another thread, this *no more calls to Chandra* sticks out like a neon sign to me. His last claim was that he had NOT ended their relationship, so why no call to her after Mrs. Levy telephones him to say she's concerned, "Hi, it's me ... been some time since I talked with you, is everything ok?" Or, "Your mom just called, she's worried about you, call me to let me know you're alright."

I contend he didn't call her because he knew she wasn't there to answer the phone.

Ingmar IS a prime suspect.

Cross him off your list. From the Washington Post story, it sounds like it was Geragos who floated this red herring in the first place. If they had the perp in jail already, the cops would be on him like white on rice, just like the Chief says. It's not like the cops actually want to have a high-profile case unsolved, the perp at large, and an ongoing confrontation with a powerful, middle-of-the-road congressman. They want the monkey off their backs, naturally enough. Condit's various slimeball mouthpieces have been hard at work pushing the random killer angle from Day 1, coz if Gary didn't kill her, who did? I mean her world revolved around Gary, right?

The fact that he never called her again is a HUGE smoking gun IMO. Also proves he's just damn dumber than I thought

Can't believe I sat in front of this ol' computer for all these day. Have an allergic reaction to something and must keep feet up till swelling goes down. Nice to have something to do other than the "Boob toob". Do love a good mystery!

What's your latest thoughts on this????

No way should anyone cross Ingmar off the list. Forget Geragos. Of course he is going to make the most of any alternative culprit. He's not the reason anyone should have Ingmar in mind. Ingmar is why you should have Ingmar in mind.

I need a legal opinion here, going to ask it of the best.

If SarahW's scenario proves true, Condit and Chandra had met up at the park, but he left her to go home alone, on the way out she is killed by the RCP predator, does Condit have any liability, criminal or civil, for not telling the police that he had met with her in that park, in such-and-such location, thereby they do not search thoroughly enough, miss finding her in the searches last year? Or is it merely a case (if true) that he was just an extremely insensitive, selfish man, more concerned over himself and his job rather than the life of someone he called a great person and a good friend, but no legal jeopardy?

I don't call it luck. I call it a real possibility that the tracks Condit was covering were different tracks than you think.

Coming from a legal family background, I know it is the job of the defense attorney to create "A REASONABLE DOUBT" That's all the lawyer is doing.....placing other scenerios in the pot...trying to create that DOUBT! Anyone in the know, knows that! Forget your suspect....He just doesn't fit. He's a redd herring! That's why Greta wasn't taken in, nor am I! We know these legal games and even expect them.

He has criminal liability for LYING to them. He's allowed to keep his mouth shut without criminal penalty if he has no actual knowlege of the crime.

True. It was one thing that he didn't call her again right away. After all, he thought she had not told anybody about their affair, so why would anybody be looking at whether he called her or not. But, once Dr. and Mrs. Levy called him to inquire about their daughter he had to know that Chandra had talked. You would think he would do some CYA and make some calls to try and "locate" her. IMO
