The point is, Chief Ramsey's every move is determined by how it will play in the press. He was getting bad press, so he had someone make the truck reappear.
With Levy, he put on a show for the press by having every rookie and cadet he could find walk through the park in front of the cameras. They didn't search the area where Chandra was found because there must not have been any media in that area last year to make searching that area worthwhile.

Molly Henneberg?? said that a couple of police were asked Ramsey and Gaines???? they would not confirm or deny that evidence was found in the park suggesting that Chandra may have been tied up. I don't have the quote, but yesterday, I believe Molly said something about and article on Condit mentioning how he liked to ride his bicycle through this park in between sessions in Congress.

Ramsey seems to be being dragged into pursuing this as a murder case, kicking and screaming.
I wonder whose payroll he is on?

The Washington Post reported that police search teams didn't reach the exact spot where Levy's remains were found, because the site was several hundred yards beyond the range of their standard search methodsThis raises all sorts of questions, like who knows about "standard search methods" and how its coincidental that her body just happened to be beyond that point. Were these "standard search methods" created before or after her death ?

Never underestmate the sheer stupidity of anyone working in D.C., especially the local police.

Yes she did. He kept a bike in his office for that purpose. She quoted from an article from last year.

Worst case of denial I have ever seen. They may not want it to be foul play because then her lifestyle probably contributed to her death. And, they condoned and encouraged that lifestyle.

Chandra decided to go out jogging , at night, At night? I've never heard that. Where did that info come from?
To: Tallguy
The authorities are also saying that she was bound. I must have missed that in the 50 or more stories I have seen on this incident. Can you tell me where that info came from?
To: SteamshipTime
Police said the area where the remains were found was not searched with dogs, but police recruits had been through the area on foot last year as part of a 1,700-acre sweep of the park.

The authorities are also saying that she was bound. Some local station is reporting it and FNC has reported it, saying that the police won't deny or confirm. The police also called it irresponsible to report data that only the police should know.

My understanding is that embalming is a fairly temporary fixative designed to last for the few days before a corpse is buried. Embalmed bodies still decay, they just don't start right away. An embalmed body would still start to give off odor after awhile. (Now this does vary a lot; when Lincoln's corpse was exhumed in the early 1900s before it was reburied in concrete in Springfield, he was very well preserved and recognizable. Many people had a look at the time.)
However, one would expect that hundreds of embalmed bodies on a given piece of property would, certainly, begin to give off quite an odor after awhile, but apparently they didn't in the case of the crematorium owner who didn't perform his job. I think the degree, and spread, of odor from a given corpse out in the wild would be dependent on climate factors, at the very least plus on whether or not it was buried and how deeply.

Chandra Levy's body apparently was dumped in Rock Creek Park,
"It was not some place where someone would crawl up into or fall into if she were injured," a law-enforcement source said.
Police believe Levy's body was put at site

Fox News was reporting that there was evidence that Chandra was bound. There have been several references to the Fox report on this thread...

The police also called it irresponsible to report data that only the police should know.I kinda figured it was an unconfirmed leak because police will never let that kind of info out without careful concideration. It will be interesting to see if it proves to be true.
People just don't think of the damage that can be done by leaking this stuff. I'm guessing someone did it for money, I could be wrong.

Chandra's wrists might have been tied.If her wrists were tied, this scenario comes to mind: She's grabbed in a relatively open area, and put in car, wrists tied so she doesn't try to escape, she's killed close to the dumping area, and then dumped.

If she WERE pregnant, and depending on how far along she was, I'd expect to find fetal bone remains as well. If fetal bones are found, DNA could be extracted to determine paternity!
Kind of a stretch but plausible.

"...Condit mentioning how he liked to ride his bicycle through this park in between sessions in Congress."
It appears to me that Condit knew that park a lot better than Chandra did. He might well have known what areas were especially likely to be deserted and when. If Chandra had been very familiar with the park, she would not have looked it up on her computer for location, IMHO.
I believe he lured here there with the promise of a fancy picknik basket from a caterer and a bottle of wine for a cozy afternoon before she left for CA. He may or may not have sent someone else to pick her up, and it may or may not have been him she ended up meeting in the park. But I believe he set up the murder to get her out of his hair. Whether he, himself, actually carried it out is a tossup, to me.
