The need for new revenues was the immediate engine driving Gov. Minner to propose a higher tax on cigarettes and an increase in the state's share of casino slots revenues. Both ideas are sound public policy that should not be sidetracked because the state's revenues have improved slightly.

In the STATE'S BEST INTEREST! ahhhh shades of Germany past, I must say!
Getting more money from cigarettes and slot machines would allow the state to restore or continue some programs in education and child welfare that are priorities in good times.

However, you don't WANT smokers, so doesn't this seem a bit unfair??!!
Taxes....All the pol's want more taxes.
Here's a simple solution......Make all drugs legal and tax the hell out of them.
The users will stay high and won't give a damn.
Now criminalize all tobacco products and declare a "war on tobacco".
This way tobacco smokers will have the same freedom "reefer" smokers have now, which is a lot more than they have today!
