PAPER: Rock Creek Park Predator Interviewed by Police Investigating Levy Death Thu May 23 2002 12:52:01 ET
D.C. Metropolitan Police Department officials investigating the death of Washington intern Chandra Levy have interviewed a man serving a 10-year prison sentence for attacking two women in Rock Creek Park last year, ROLL CALL DAILY is planning to report on Thursday.
MORE
D.C. Metro Police investigators have "talked to" Ingmar Guandeque, who was arrested in July 2001 after attacking two females (one in May and one in July) who were jogging along the Broad Branch trail in Rock Creek Park. Levy's decomposed body was found Wednesday along the Broad Branch trail in a heavily wooded area.
A second official close to the Levy investigation said that while Guandeque was interviewed after Levy's disappearance last year, investigators are now taking a closer look at him since the intern's body was discovered.
"Clearly there are some coincidences and links -- just because of the proximity of where he [committed his crimes]," said a source close to the investigation.
ROLL CALL's Amy Keller reports: Guandeque, who lived on the 1400 block of Somerset Place Northwest, was arrested last summer and sentenced in February 2002 to two concurrent terms of 10 years' imprisonment for a pair of assaults of female joggers in the Broad Branch section of the park.
The first attack occurred in mid-May 2001, at 6:30 p.m., about two weeks after Levy disappeared. In that case, Guandeque came upon an unnamed female jogger, attacking her from behind while brandishing a knife.

He didn't let them go. Far from it. He thought someone was coming and made his escape with the first known victim. The second one managed to get away. He didn't "let" her get away, he thought he had her subdued and was mistaken.

D.C. police have still not recontacted one of the assault victims since the discovery of Chandra's remains.

No, it was the sweatshirt found with the body that initially told them it could be Chandra, prior to the dental records identifying her. The sweatshirt from whichever California college she had attended. Just heard that today.
To: browardchad
No, it may have been higher than the trail, but it was in a ravine.

At the time the perp assaulted the two women, he was awaiting sentencing for breaking and entering (into another apartment in his apartment house.)

I have not heard any cable news show report a backpack.
Sports bra, underware, ring with initials L C, walkman, 1 Rebok tennis shoe, shirt, jogging pants.

The backpack may have been what made the police so sure the remains
were Chandra's before they had made the forensic match.I understand they were pretty sure it was Chandra because they
found a sweat shirt that had the same logo as the Calif. college she attended.

Core did talk to the one of the victims before his show started, but she's not willing to come on the air now. If he's charged, then she might come on the air.

But, a woman who lives in the area said that the area was not good for jogging and that it was hardly ever used for running because the paths were uneven and not entirely cleared.

That one victim's name is Hailey Schilling (sp?).

LOL I don't think Levy was on the back! But, IF he had his people pick her up at the curb, he could have ridden to the park and waited for them.

The D.C. chief of police was on MSNBC just a few mintues ago. He said that her body was NOT found near any place anybody would jog.
Geragos is spinning like Hurricane Hugo.

Breaking and entering - pretty typical charge to appear on the fron end of a serial rapist/killers rap sheet. I'd like to know his whole rap sheet. Where was this guy in 98, when Mirzayan was attacked, tossed into the brush, sexually assaulted and then bludgeoned with a rock?

It was dragged away from there, for sure. But the killer probably met up with her on the trail.

Sarah, why would that guy kill Chandra, bury her body there, and then try to attack two other women in the exact same place, which would draw attention to the area?
And why on EARTH would he attack two women in an area he buried a body in WHILE they were looking for her?
BTW, the D.C. police said her body was found in a deep ravine and it was not near anywhere people jogged.

Some parts of the Branch Rd trail are good for jogging - the women who were assaulted were jogging on that trail.

A little bit worse than "horrible sloppy reporting." THIS is how juries are swayed. It's nothing short of jury tampering.
Like Goebbels said, "tell a lie loud enough and often enough and people will believe it."
